Trump is Literally Decimating the GOP

We know how paltry his own fundraising efforts are proving to be.

http://lastmenandovermen.blogspot.com/2016/06/trumps-campaign-is-not-self-funded-so.html

But he's not the only victim. That''s been the problem all along for the GOP. His very candidacy has tarnished every GOPer running for office in the country.

Now his failure to raise money is also hurting the RNC-and so potentially, the Senate and Congressional GOP races.

"Trump won't have the Republican National Committee to fall back on either. The RNC collected $11 million in May — $3 million of which came from a joint fundraising account with Trump. The committee ended the month with $20 million in the bank but $7 million in debt. If Trump can't raise lots more money — both for himself and into the RNC — it's possible that coordinated campaigns aimed at helping GOP candidates up and down the ballot may not be fully funded."

"That creeping reality will set off a new round of worries about Trump's candidacy and whether he might not only lose the White House but also cost Republicans their Senate majority and maybe even their House one too. Especially since Trump has pledged not to self-fund his campaign in the general election, meaning that he need to not only start raising vastly larger sums of money but also do it very, very soon."

"If fundraising is, at its root, a test of whether you can get people to vote for you with their checkbooks, Trump failed in May. And he failed with every possible advantage working for him: Momentum, decent-to-good polling and, at least for part of the month, a Republican party that seemed willing to unify behind him."

"Trump may not need to raise as much money as Clinton to win. But he can't have another month where he is outraised by her at a nine to one clip. If he does, the general election may be over before it ever really started."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/06/20/donald-trumps-may-fundraising-totals-are-stunningly-bad/

"Cillizza also notes that Corey Lewandowski might seem gracious in light of being escorted out of Trump Tower-literally a security guard saw him out-but he seemed to be just like his boss he loves: completely out of touch with reality."

"Trump's paltry fundraising last month is totally inexplicable given that he effectively secured the Republican presidential nomination on May 3 when he crushed Texas. Sen. Ted Cruz in the Indiana primary. Cruz ended his campaign that night. Ohio Gov. John Kasich dropped out the next day.

"It also runs directly counter to assertions made Monday by Trump's now-deposed campaign manager Corey Lewandowski who repeatedly insisted that "money is pouring in" to Trump's coffers. (It's possible Lewandowski was referring to Trump's June fundraising. But if Trump did so poorly in May why would he suddenly improve in June amid a series of self-inflicted campaign wounds that have made it impossible for him to find a message much less stay on it?)"

For his part, Lewandowski is the scapegoat. After all, like Paul Waldman says, Trump can't fire himself.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2016/06/20/unable-to-fire-the-man-responsible-for-his-campaigns-problems-trump-boots-ineffectual-underling-instead/

As the Democrats point out, Trump not Lewandowski is the main problem:

Donald Trump may have fired campaign manager Corey Lewandowski on Monday, but the Democratic National Committee suggested that the presumptive Republican nominee need only look in the mirror to find the person most responsible for his problems.

“Corey Lewandowski is not the problem, it’s Donald Trump," national press secretary Mark Paustenbach said in a statement, noting in particular the candidate's call to temporarily ban Muslims from the country and his comments pertaining to a judge presiding over his Trump University lawsuits. "It wasn’t Corey Lewandowski who called for a ban on Muslims entering the United States, it was Donald Trump. It wasn’t Corey Lewandowski who disparaged a federal judge born in Indiana because his parents were ‘Mexican’, it was Donald Trump."

"News of Lewandowski's firing "does nothing to make up for Trump’s divisive and racist comments and policies," Paustenbach concluded. "It does reinforce, however, that there’s no one Trump won’t throw overboard for his own personal benefit, just as he’s done his entire life.”

  1. Mike, I left this for you in another comment, but it probably belongs here: a quote from Leon Wolf:

"Disaster is looming over the horizon for this campaign. Anyone who donates to Trump will have their name listed on his donor registry forever and ever, and by now no one wants that on their permanent record."

Lol, I love that! On their permanent record. =)

  2. Somebody on MSNBC also bought up the fact that Trump is getting 4th rate people to talk at the GOP convention. He'll probably end up filling slots with the likes of Gary Busey and himself (lots and lots of himself).

Think of who the Dems will have at their convention, other than Hillary. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it will be:

    1. Bill Clinton
    2. Obama
    3. Biden
    4. Elizabeth Warren
    5. Kerry
    6. Sanders
    7. Sherrod Brown
    9. Chis Murphy
    10. Martin O'Malley
    11. Wasserman-Schultz
    12. Corey Booker
    13. Julian Castro
    14. Tim Caine

    These people too:

Among the names under discussion by Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Clinton and campaign advisers: Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, former governors from the key state of Virginia; Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, who represents both a more liberal wing of the party and a swing state; former Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, a prominent African-American Democrat; and Thomas E. Perez, President Obama’s labor secretary and a Hispanic civil rights lawyer.
    (from here: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/24/us/politics/hillary-clinton-vice-president.html)

Plus a bunch of other people I'm forgetting. Maybe some governors (Jerry Brown, Andrew Cuomo, etc), and senators (Gillibrand, Boxer, etc...)

The point is if anything people will be TURNED AWAY ... because people actually WANT to attend and speak at the Democrat's convention! Lol.

    1. In all fairness Trump may have to turn a few folks away who want to be there (at the GOP convention) too: David Duke, the KKK and the American Nazi party (to name a few).

    2. LOL. Maybe Trump invites Clint Eastwood back to finish his discussion with the chair

    3. Good list. Exactly the point I've been making.

The list is not comprehensive-but it really can't be as there are so many.

Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Jim Cluyburn, Nancy Pelosi...

  3. Leon Wolf continues his assault:
    http://www.redstate.com/leon_h_wolf/2016/06/21/trumps-dead-broke-campaign-paying-trumps-companies-lot-money/

Leon pretty much came out and said that it's clear Clinton would be a better choice than Trump the other day (yesterday maybe?). He still didn't say he'd vote for her, but he didn't leave any question that he doesn't view them as equal.

  4. Erickson claims 48% of Republicans want Trump replaced:
    http://theresurgent.com/48-of-republicans-want-to-replace-trump/

That number worries me a little (if it's true). I'd like to see a number like that AFTER he's safely been nominated.

    I love the opening line:

"Coming one day after realizing Donald Trump has less cash on hand for his campaign than a whore in Vegas has under her mattress, 48% of Republicans want a new nominee."

Lol... sounds like Erickson may have a side business he's not telling us about? Las Vegas pimp?

  6. Check out this by a long-time Latino Republican (who's decided to part ways with the party):
    http://www.mysanantonio.com/opinion/commentary/article/Farewell-my-Grand-Old-Party-8307172.php

What I thought he'd say, and he didn't, right here:

This madness could be temporary because our nominee is not really a Republican. Nor a real conservative. He’s just a shark, a self-promoter out to see how far his out-of-control ego can take him.

I thought he'd go onto say "but then again, the voters of my party chose him. I guess that's who they really are."

  10. Hey Mike, I left Sumner a quote from Erick Erickson about Trump's fictitious ad agency.

"If you want a sense of just how ridiculous this farce is, Donald Trump paid $35,000 to “Draper Sterling”, a fictitious ad agency. Seriously. He also paid more that $400,000 to rent his own Mar-a-Lago, which was more than his whole payroll. He reimbursed his children’s travel for the campaign. He paid himself a salary. The data is ridiculous and embarrassing. He spent $737,000 at Trump owned businesses."

Do you know any more about that Draper Sterling business? Here's Scott's question: feel free to fill in the blanks if you know them:
