There's an old saying. Be careful what you wish for. I have been wishing for this since last July.

When people say now 'Well, don't be so confident Democrats. After all we never thought Trump could win the Republican nomination either', they are dead wrong.
It's true they didn't think he could. I have thought so after watching Trump for about three months.
You are going to hear a lot of people wetting the bed the next few weeks. Trump can win, he really can. She's' a flawed candidate. She''s not as likable as he is. Sure, he's likable-only 73 percent of women don't approve of him!
You are going to see many like Howard Finneman here.
"Here Are 7 Reasons Why Donald Trump Could Really Win In November. Not that much stands between America and the Trumpocalypse."

Really. How about those 73 percent of women who don't approve of him? That's not much? How about the 80 percent of Latinos who hate him? How about the 90 percent plus of the black vote he will lose?
A lot of people don't like the demographics is destiny argument-they find it somehow grubby-but you have to say that in the primary, it has held up very well. Bernie Sanders was never able to make it with Latinos, African-Americans or women, and this sank his candidacy.
Speaking of bedwetting, check out Van Jones claiming that Trump can get as much as 30 percent of the black vote in the general. Really?

Charles Blow won't let this stand.
"Now that we are sure that it will be him, I will be posting constant reminders of who he REALLY is... #Trump"

He quoted Trump in 1990 saying he didn't want 'black guys' handling his money, he wanted 'short Jews wearing a Yarmulke all day.'
Look, you never want to be complacent and the Dems certainly shouldn't and won't be complacent about Trump. But let's be honest this is a dream matchup. Matt Yglesias gets it right here.
"Only a Democrat can stop Donald Trump."
"Donald Trump's ongoing evisceration of the Republican Party establishment has earned him a reputation in some circles as a Teflon-coated magician, a politician whose mind meld with the American people is so strong it makes him immune to attack."
"He's not."
"Of course, liberals should not be complacent about Trump's ability to win a general election. Winning a primary is harder than winning a general, and anyone who's secured either major party's nomination is just a bit of good luck away from taking the White House. But the antidote to complacency is not panic."
"The fact is that Trump has triumphed in Republican Party primaries because the Republican Party is incapable of mounting effective resistance to him, not because effective resistance is impossible. Their strategies have failed because highlighting his real weaknesses cuts against too much of what the GOP base believes."
"The plain, obvious truth is that Trump is running a racist campaign based on an unimpressive record in business and bad public policy ideas. The Republican Party can't mount this argument in an effective way because to do so involves stepping over too many GOP taboos."
"That's why to stop Trump, his opponent is going to have to be a Democrat — realistically,Hillary Clinton though in principle Bernie Sanders or someone else would work. A Democrat will happily hammer Trump over his weaknesses and bury a candidate who's already held in very low regard by the mass public."

I wish Yglesias would forget Bernie Sanders already. Democrats have. I actually don't agree Bernie could have done it as easily-he would have been a bigger risk as he would have split the Democrat party in two. Which is why black voters never were willing to take Bernie seriously-they voted pragmatically and in a risk adverse way.
Putting that gripe aside, Yglesias is spot on.
Certainly complacency is not in order but panic is not the answer. That's pretty much true of all life's important endeavors.
Don't be complacent but don't panic. If Hillary does this she has a very good chance of being the first female POTUS.

Cryin' Glenn Beck thinks the GOP will never win another presidential campaign again. Of course he also thought that Lyin' Ted Crucifer's defeat would mean the end of life as we know it on planet Earth.
ReplyDeleteI so hope that Cruz holds out on endorsing Trump until late in the game... but ultimately I'd like to see him endorse Trump. With all the enthusiasm that Lindsey Graham endorsed him. That would require the holier-than-thou #NeverTrump God squad to add his name to their life-time enemies shun-list. I'm really going to enjoy Erickson's write up on that:
"Lyin' Ted Crucifer, Satan's weasel boy, and cowardly backstabber, betrays God, Jesus and stabs America and Freedom in the face."
Maybe I'll write the article for him now and send it to Erickson so he'll have it at the ready for when the time comes.
I see this Trump victory as a chance to cause follow on damage on the right.
Basically I'd like the see the right's proclivity to engage is galactic scale hyperbole and act like drama queens with menstral cramps continue as they continue to turn their sordid tactics on themselves.
DeleteI think Glenn Beck may be right though. It's tough to see them back in the White House anytime soon.
DeleteMike, just so you know, you may have a leg up on the competition if you ever decide to start a dairy. Because to get here I'm so used to typing in "Mike Sax Diary" and I type "Mike Sax Dairy" about 50% of the time and it still works. Although I never see any cow milking products in the ads. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to start a Dairy anything. LOL
DeleteWhat I want is some public recognition for while the pundits all got Trump wrong, I got it right very early in the game
mike you foolish people (trump haters) never learn do you, the more you insult him,the more you lie about him,the stronger he gets,by election time he will be a steamroller,he will destroy your evil witch, and you will have to eat crow.so get ready to do some eating mr. cocky...
ReplyDeleteOK. well let's talk election night in November then.
