Muddy the Waters, Hope Enough Voters Hear What They Want to Hear

Brad Jaffy argues that's Trump's new immigration policy and I think that's about right.

In all seriousness though, he's trying to escape accountability and there are all kinds of traps for those who listen to him too credulously.

"writing that Trump prioritizes "criminal aliens" is bad because he also promised to prioritize people who "strain the safety net"

Thank you Simon Maloy for this important point.

No thank you, Mark Murray, you've been snowed:

"Trump leaves door open: "When we have accomplished our goals & wall ... then & only then will be in a position to consider those who remain"

Nope. He was clear that everyone has to be deported first. Then the 'good ones' come back which could very likely take years.

"he said every person unlawfully in the country will be up for deportation though."

One source of confusion: Trump talked about those who commit crimes. Some then assume he'll let those who don't commit crimes stay or there will be a decision later.

Wrong. Trump considers all 12 million to be criminals-as illegal immigration is against the law.

"After days of hints that he might soften his approach to appeal to more moderate voters, Donald Trump reiterated his hardline proposals for tackling illegal immigration, insisting there would be “no amnesty” for those who come into the country illegally and proposing restrictions to limit legal immigration as well."

"And contradicting aides who suggested he might dial back his proposal for a mass deportation of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country, Trump vowed there would be no citizenship offered to those who enter the U.S. illegally.

“For those here illegally today who are seeking legal status, they will have one route and one route only: To return home and apply for re-entry like everybody else under the rules of the new legal immigration system that I have outlined today,” the GOP presidential nominee declared. “There will be no amnesty.”

Return home and apply for re-entry like everybody else. Where is the ambiguity here? If you let Trump muddy the waters it's on you. He's very clear.

Another crucial point that can get lost: Trump is also against legal immigration and wants to cut back.

"Trump's anti-legal immigration tilt totally consistent w/Breitbart angle AND European anti-imm movements. Brexit was abt legal immigration."

He's stated that after terrorist attacks and he stated it again last night.
