A'Greek'ment the Price of 7 Months of Carefree Govt

Wow. Now that's a bad deal. It's even worse than anyone could have imagined. The reference in the title is a comment by the Polish Prime Minister:

"Polish PM Ewa Kopacz says Greek deal at #EuroSummit deal is ``price #Greece pays for 7 months of populist rule'' by its ``carefree'' govt"

This should confirm once and for all that this is a morality tale from the standpoint of the EU. You almost think that this was so bad that world opinion will finally really turn against the EU and this could be the beginning of the end for it.

That's just speculation-and wishful thinking on my part. However, most observers agreed that watching this weekend has been gruesome indeed. I'm just mystified that anything could be worse than this. Even the $50 billion dollar euro scheme made it into the agreement that the Greek Parliament will now vote for.

There are a whole slew of 'structural reforms' the Greeks must now implement within 72 hours and they also have to get rid of laws that were passed without the blessing of the EU.

Yet Tripas says the most extreme reform plans had been avoided!

"Speaking to reporters after the deal, Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, said the most extreme reform plans had been averted, and the country had endured a big struggle for the last six months."

There were more extreme plans than vassalship? Those $50 billion euros are 27% of Greek GDP.

The very well named Mr. Juncker doesn't think that anyone has been humiliated in the deal.

"Despite the apparent capitulation of Greece to lender demands, the Commission's President Juncker was keen to point out that no side had been humiliated by the deal."

"There are no winners and no losers. I don't think the Greek people have been humiliated and the other European governments have not lost face. It is a typical European agreement," he said.

Maybe President Juncker could give us an example of something that would humiliate Greece.

My concern from last night then seems to be borne out: Tripas does wan't a deal at any price.

For whatever reason he simply considers leaving the euro unthinkable. Germany did have Greece by the balls after all.

Tripas now seems to have the worst of all worlds. He is embracing a deal worse than what his people had rejected just a week ago. If this passes it will probably-deservedly-be the end of him.

Of course, that's just a win-win for the EU who wanted to destroy him from the start anyway.
