Thank you John Harwood for getting it on this very tired, noisy narrative of is Hillary a conservative like her husband or a liberal unlike her husband. In truth there really isn't that much daylight between the 2 anymore than between her and Obama or Bill himself and Obama.
They are all centrist liberal Democrats:
No former American first lady has ever sought her husband’s old job before. So the temptation to compare Clinton presidential campaigns — Bill’s in 1992 and Hillary’s now — is irresistible.
"On such issues as gay rights, crime and, this week, the economy, her stances have diverged from his. Place them side by side, and Hillary Clinton appears to have moved the partnership he once called “buy one, get one free” toward the ideological left.
"In reality, however, those differences mostly reflect changes in the country over the generation separating their White House bids. Overlapping waves of demography, culture and economics have moved America’s political center. She has navigated them by steering a similar course of politically temperate liberalism."

Thank you. What you get are the Hillary haters on the Left accuse her of being 'Just like her husband' while the Hillary haters on the Right accuse her of being 'Nothing like her husband.'
What I appreciate about Harwood's analysis is that he corrects not just the record of Hillary but also o her husband who was also a: liberal Democrat. Admittedly at at time when Democrats were more and more afraid just to say "Hello, how are you? I''m good and I'm the liberal candidate for President.'
Thankfully times have turned much more fortuitously for the Dems:

People forget that in 1992 Don't ask don't tell' was taking a position out on a limb on gay rights.
As I chronicled yesterday, Hillary's speech on Monday was very important as it discussed the issue of the 2016 campaign-what is the liberal answer to the rise of what is called the Uber economy.
http://diaryofarepublicanhater.blogspot.com/2015/07/hillary-on-uber-economy.html
Contrary to the Chicken Little cries of the GOP Hillary and the Democrats aren't trying to destroy Uber-just make sure it pays them as employees not contractors and generally obeys all relevant labor and workplace laws and regulations.
However, it's also not true that Hillary is 'distancing' herself from Obama-we saw how well that worked for the Democrats last November-or Al Gore in 2000.
Instead her pitch is Obama plus. In a way she's saying 'Like Obama but even better' but this is like Bush Sr. in 1988. She is basically in agreement with the basic Obama agenda but obviously wants to take it to the next level.
"To win in 2016, Clinton must wrap her arms around the most successful Democratic presidential candidate in recent history — there’s simply no path to victory in a general election if she alienates black voters and restive liberals who turned out for Obama in record numbers in two elections. Yet, as her support of the Iran deal revealed, she is also intent on portraying a future Clinton presidency as less an Obama third term than Obama Plus — with a touch of her I’m-wiser-and-tougher-than-him 2008 primary message."
“She’s going to basically support his policies but imply without saying so that she’s going to be tougher,” said Brookings Institution fellow Jeremy Shapiro, who served as a special adviser to the Clinton State Department on Europe and Asia policy.

"Certainly in 2009 he was too optimistic about the his ability to reach compromise with GOPers-not because of any failings on his part but simply because: GOPers don't compromise."
It's difficult to imagine her of all people underestimating the perversity of Republicans. She wasn't shocked I'm guessing to hear Mtich McConnell announce that the ony thing his party cared about in 2009 was not fixing the economy but destroying President Obama."\
"Since announcing her intention to run, Clinton has declared her intention to build upon or tweak (respectfully and indirectly, of course) an ever-widening range of Obama policies, including immigration reform, tax policy, college affordability, the prosecution of Wall Street executives and health care reform, the subject of her most heated domestic policy clash with Obama eight years ago."
“There’s not a lot of daylight, but there are differences,” says a Democratic operative with ties to the Clinton camp. “The goal here is to accentuate the differences without causing a breach. It’s not easy. But half of her team are [former] Obama people, so that helps. Plus she has developed a genuine deep respect for [Obama] over the years.”
At the end of the day Hillary is the liberal Democrat candidate for President and Jeb Bush is the conservative Republican candidate. A lot is revealed about what each one's policy propositions will be right here.
