Happy July 4 Diary of a Republican Hater Readers

I don't know what you're doing today-playing with fireworks? Well I hear a lot of warnings about their danger but I also see-and hear-lots of folks using them.

So be safe but enjoy celebrating are nation's independence. Here is some nice July 4th music some people took the trouble to compile.

It's about freedom of choice, etc. I will say that though I'm a liberal-and many liberals seem to be eternal pessimists, I'm congenitally speaking something of an optimist.

In a way most liberals are right-I mean for the last 35 years since Reagan have we had much to celebrate? Well now we do. Lately a lot of things have been going in our direction-things that I myself didn't even dare to dream of.

While the struggle is hardly over-I suspect that there will be 10 to 20 more years of arm-wrestling with the GOP before we can truly move on-and in a larger sense, lie itself is struggle, there is no final destination where struggle ceases and all his harmonious concord and no one has a care-there truly is a slew of wins we can now hang our hats on both with social issues like gay marriage to ACA to all these ballsy moves the President has been doing lately.

I mean fighting collusion by the airlines? Going after the for-profit colleges? Who could have imagined we see this day?

Hey, America, as Stephen Colbert would say "I am America and so can you."

I wonder how many of Obama's leftist critics-aka firebaggers-can admit they were in any way wrong about him.

As for America, I think while there are still many things wrong in our country that needs fixing, I think it's true that there isn't a country that compares with us in its devotion to the belief in liberty and the democratic ideal.

Again, Happy 4th and eat some BBQ for me as well. Now if the Yankees can follow up last night's incredible come from behind victory the day will truly be complete.

P.S. Of course, while many of you might be going out or hanging with family or whatever, you know me-for all I know I will write 10 more heady posts about Scott Sumner, Greece, or the President before day's end.

  Again, Happy 4th.
