Many seem to be decrying it, feeling that Tebow was somehow treated unfairly. The argument for why Elway got Manning is that it was the only way to get rid of Tebow without setting off a big backlash against him.
What's interesting is this idea that it is somehow unfair that "after all he did" he should be passed over like this. What I don't get is why all the Tebow lovers seem to think that the rules of the NFL should be suspended only for him.
This is an ungrateful league. It's not what have you done for me it's not even what have you done for me lately, it's what have you done for me today-more importantly what will you do for me tomorrow. Think about it-was there anything fair about how Phil Simms ended his career in NY? He led the Giants to their resurrection in the 80s, set a super bowl record in leading the Giants to their first super bowl championship and led them to a 10-0 start in 1990. He had 15 TDs and 4 Ints until the 15th game of the year he got hurt.
Jeff Hostleler took over for him led the Giants to a super bowl win and the next year Ray Handley-who turned out to have a very poor tenure here in NY-benched Simms for Hostleler. In retrospect the move didn't do much to help the Giants. Whether or not they would have done better under Simms they wouldn't have done any worse.
Then even Joe Montana was benched in San Fransisco for Steve Young. Montana had to finish out his career banished to Kansas City. Comparatively Tebow hasn't even achieved anything yet, nor is there anything that suggests he's a great or even very good QB. I for one will shed no tears over Tebow. I was never a fan of his anyway. What for? He's not a NY Giant which is what I care about anyway. And his numbers were awful. Maybe some team will bring him on as a running back.
