Is Romney's Dog Story a Cheap Shot?

       So asks Politco's David Mark:

      "The cover illustration of the latest New Yorker shows Mitt Romney driving a car with his GOP rival Rick Santorum strapped to the roof in a doghouse. It’s a reference to the story of Seamus, the Romneys’ Irish setter who in the 1980s rode in a crate strapped to the roof of the family station wagon on a vacation trip to Canada. New York Times columnist Gail Collins repeatedly knocks Romney on the story, first reported by the Boston Globe five years ago. And MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said recently the tale could define Romney as "cold" and "unfeeling."

      "Is this a fair line of criticism or a cheap shot?"

       I've got to thoughts about that. First of all, no. Second, I don't mind Mark asking the question. And keep on asking it. If Fox news wants to feature lots of stories about how the liberal media is being unfair about running the story about the time Romney strapped his dog to th roof and drove to Canada in the family station wagon, go right ahead.

      In a country that is as dog crazy as America, even asking this question could get you hurt. So by all means, keep asking it. LOL.

      I have a friend who's crazy about pugs. Recently she and her friends were sending around a petition to ban Michael Vick from ever owning a dog again.

      So please, by all means. let's debate this. In all seriousness it is a weird story. And it does seem in some way to relate to the general feeling that this guy lacks empathy, and is kind of cold and unfeeling.

     You can make the case that Americans will never elect a guy who did such a thing to his dog. That the dog story is already more than enough to disqualify him.
