We keep on hearing how this race is a "referendum on Obama." That's how the GOP wants to spin it. You'd never guess that there's actually a Congress, including a House that has done not a thing for the economy other than try to play political gotcha in a bid to make the Obama "a one term President."
Well let's look at the record. The economy is certainly in better shape than it was when Obama took office. Unemployment is lower, we have positive economic growth again, we have avoided going backwards as Europe and Britain have. I know, Newt has promised $2.50 gas.
On a state to state basis a striking 45 of 50 states saw their unemployment rate go down in January.

"The improvements encompassed all swing states where neither President Barack Obama nor his future Republican opponent have a clear overwhelming majority."
"Of the 10 swing states, only three had rates higher than the national one. The rate in Nevada was 12.7 percent. In North Carolina it was 10.2 percent and in Florida 9.6 percent."
The GOP Congress has done everything to sabotage the recovery, and to spin it as all the President's fault. Ironic that Rick Perry talked of treason. Talk about the calling the kettle black. Now that the economy is clearly recovering-Operation Tank the Economy failed-they are trying to convince us to ignore our lying eyes and convince us that the sky is falling-gas is rising.
All Obama's fault! Full throated Obama Derangement Syndrome (OBDS). This is the new GOP winning formula. Demagouging gas prices, with the free market loving GOP promising $2.50 gas and unicorns for everyone.
Running a completely clueless, phony fellow who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, with an almost congenital deficiency in basic human empathy and who makes fun of his own voters for wearing shabby rain coats.
And the usual overwrought Obama Derangement Syndrome. Everything in the world that has over gone wrong is wholly his fault and no one else's other than maybe Nancy Pelosi. You get an empty suit like the Right wing radio host Howie Carr talking about Reagan in 1980-isn't it pitiful that there's nothing to talk about for the GOP since 1980. Sure, Mitt's the next Reagan. And Newt can guarantee us $2.50 gas.
There are 6 unemployment statistics compiled by the U.S. Government, U1 through U6. U1 is set up to ignore the shrinking job market, U6 considers it and the unemployment rate is more then 16%.
ReplyDeleteEven more take a poll in the swing states of U6 registered voters. Who are they going to vote for. The biggest misconception is unemployment is falling. But the irony is you cant tell an unemployed person who has been looking for work for in some several years things are better. There comes a point when reality not political spin wins the arguement.
DeleteLook Brian I was unemployed for a good while. I do hae a job now since January though doesn't pay enough.
ReplyDeleteBut Obama is doing pretty well in the swing states so it may be more than just spin. I don't buy that U6 voters are Romney supporters.
The differnt gauges of employment have been around for a while-Obama did not invent them.
