Todd Akin Stays in Race; Tells Romney to Mind His Own Business

I almost like this guy after he said that. I mean anyone who flips of Willard Mitt Romney is OK in my book. So I don't see that there's anything the GOP can do about this now. It's done. As far as Akin is concerned-you've broke him and bought him.

All the big GOPers were out against him. The RSCC said it won't fund him and Karl Rove's powerful CrossRoads has withdrawn funding. Sean Hannity urged him to quit. Rush Limbaugh didn't quite say he must quit but did say that he should think about the party and the country and that "We simply must win the White House, take back the Senate, and hold onto the House."

He said he hoped that Akin would do the right thing. So how's it looking now Rush? Did he do the right thing? Interestingly, the Democratic poll PPP showed him still with a 1 point lead, yet Limbaugh says that the poll was deliberately skewed to Republicans by having them represented 9% more in the poll.

All the biggest names in Missouri urged Akin out-and Rush is about as big a name in Missouri politics as you get besides.

"Blunt, along with four former Republican senators from Missouri — John Ashcroft, Kit Bond, John Danforth, and Jim Talent — called Akin’s remarks “totally unacceptable” and said “this election is simply too important” for Akin to stay put."

"Akin seems to believe the uproar will subside once the news cycle moves past his controversial comments. And with polls showing the race close and McCaskill highly vulnerable — Akin’s team circulated a poll from the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling showing him narrowly ahead — the congressman thinks there’s time for him to rebound and that national money will pour back into the race if it remains close."

This is a fascinating development. Let me just say that I've never been so proud of my Democrats as during this cycle. I mean from Harry Reid's Bain source, to the President's tough campaign, to Claire McCaskill's inspired gambit. It doesn't get any better than this. The Dems are proving that they aren't wimps this election cycle.

Rush is right-this election is earth shattering. It's the last best chance the Republicans will get to do what they've been dying to do for 80 years and that's finally bury FDR's New Deal. They plan to literally end Medicare-for everyone, not only for those over 55.

The Dems have played hard. Not dirty but hard. And Claire has simply been inspired here. The $2 million in pro Akin ads-they were anti Akin but of course in the middle of a conservative Republican primary in Missouri they were in effect pro Akin ads.

Now she has her candidate. Someone almost totally discredited with no Republican group with any standing willing to give him a penny. We'll see whether or not any of these grass roots supporters he's thinking of come can make up for tens of millions of dollars lost from the RSCC and CrossRoads-I mean that sincerely, we'll see. I don't know. Look, at least nobody in Missouri can doubt who it is they are voting for now if they do pull the lever for Akin.

But this is the race we want to see. Just like Paul Ryan is the national opponent we wanted to see. Because Akin speaks for the Republicans party which is why they have had to repudiate him and banish him. He tells the truth of the Republican party and it's attitude toward abortion, birth control, rape and just women in general.

When you add to what they all want to do to a woman's right to choose-the Personhood Bill, defund Planned Parenthood-to the Ryan budget and his plan for Medicare-end it and kill ObamaCare in it's crib(much of the benefits of Obamacare go to women in things like free birth control, etc) this is the most aggressive anti woman party we've seen in this country in many generations. The Ryan-Romney ticket is fully as conservative on women's issues as Akin, There is most certainly no daylight between them on abortion.

If you have any doubts just see the new Republican party plank for 2012: outlaw all abortions with no exceptions for rape or even the life of the mother.

I tell you in a way I appreciate Todd Akin. His problem is that he's not a hypocrite. Romney and Ryan were jawboning him to get out today but what substantively is it that he says that they disagree with?

And I certainly love him for flipping off Romney-anyone who does that is a friend of mine.

"Rep. Todd Akin told Mitt Romney to mind his own business Tuesday, accusing the presumptive GOP nominee of “making a bigger deal” than necessary out of Akin’s comments about “legitimate rape.”

“Don’t you think he may have built this thing up and made a bigger deal about it than he needed to?” Akin asked host Sean Hannity on the latter’s radio show. “Why couldn’t he run his race and I’ll run mine?”

"Akin said Romney and other top Republicans were jumping to conclusions by arguing his presence on the ticket would hurt the GOP nationally.

“He has just assumed, even though the polling data says I’m still ahead, and perhaps there’s a lag,” Akin said.

"Hannity interrupted Akin, pointing out the poll Akin referenced — conducted by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling — appeared to have oversampled Republicans. The poll showed Akin with 44 percent to McCaskill’s 43 percent, even though 75 percent of Missouri voters thought Akin’s remarks were inappropriate."

“I guess my point is you misspeak one time, one place, one word and all of a sudden you have everybody saying you endanger the entire party,” Akin said. “Don’t you think there’s a little hyperbole going on here?”

Yeah I got to love the Dems at Public Policy Polling too. We have the perfect Veep for the Dems in Ryan. Now we have the perfect opponent to keep our Senate majority in Akin. Christmas has come early here for Democrats this year.
