Romney Loses Cheer-Off With Ron Paul Supporters

     While we've covered this before, no one likes Mitt Romney-not even his own supporters. They hate the President, but they don't particularly like Mitt Romney. Lately, Republicans have been trying to convince people that it's ok to vote for people you don't like.

     Maybe, but it isn't really the American way. When all is said and done, the most powerful campaign slogan ever, that was simply unbeatable was "We like Ike."

     You really can't oppose that without being a hater. In my lifetime-my political lifetime basically starts with Reagan's-unfortunate landslide over Jimmy Carter-the more likable candidate has won every Presidential election.

      Most Americans like the President and know he's a decent guy. He's trying and quite honestly, the real problem has been the do nothing GOP Congress-led by Paul Ryan.

      Today, the GOP Convention got kicking with Romney losing another likability poll-to Ron Paul supporters:

       "Ron Paul walked onto the convention floor about 25 minutes before the first real day of the GOP convention here was set to get under way. His supporters cheered and started chanting his name. That brought out much weaker counter cheers from Mitt Romney supporters, who started chanting "Rom-ney" over the Paul chants."

     "Paul will not be speaking at the convention, saying recently that he couldn't take the podium at Romney's convention because "I don’t fully endorse him for president."

     Look, I'll be the first to admit I really don't get the whole Ron Paul phenomenon. I don't get how not being able to use gold in our transactions is in any way "coercion."  But I've had enough barn burners with Major Freedom and this is no time for that particular "levity" to use the word that Reince Priebus uses for Romney's taking up Birtherism.

     Romney has tried to suck up to the Ron Paul people some with a promise to fire Bernanke and Paul Ryan's Ayn Randian plan to go back to not just the gold standard but gold coins-taking us not to the 19th century, but the 18th. Still they are not impressed.

     You got to love this. Hopefully between them and people like Huckabee and Santorum who remain Akin defenders they'll be some more disunity down in Tampa.

     The Democrats made a good point the other day by questioning Huckabee's speech-if you're really so opposed to what Akin said, why give room for an Akin Advocate?

     Hopefully Huckabee decides that he "cannot be silent"- as Martin Luther once said- and drops the A bomb right in the middle of the convention. It's a nice thought anyway.
