Truth is stranger than fiction they say and there is nothing stranger that George Zimmerman's legal team. Yesterday they announced they were quitting. This after two weeks of making extremely boldly confident-well beyond pompous-declarations about what happened: their client did act in self-defense no ifs or buts about it, had had a knotted head, a bloody nose. They were so specific about just what happened and so dogmatic about it you'd swear they were walking through that Sanford gated community with Zimmerman.
Now they suddenly quit and it turns out that they haven't spoken to him since Sunday, they have never met him in person and really don't know where he is. Their impression-based on what they don't elaborate-is that Zimmerman is "far, far away. Not in the state." On the other hand they still seem confident he has not left the country.
Do they have a basis to feel this way? Who knows. We don't have the knowledge they do. On the other hand the Florida state attorney says she will make an announcement within 72 hours. Zimmerman evidently attempted to contact her directly. She-correctly on legal grounds as she assumed he was still being represented by the cocksure attorneys who have never met him-refused to speak to him.
I'd love to know who hired these attorneys in the first place. My take on it is that while they were a waste of money, part of the problem is that they are in the dark about too much. They are required to mount a defense with such little material to work with.
It may well be his family that hired the attorneys, but I was still very intrigued by that question. Who is this legal team and who hired them. That one interview where Laurence O'Donnell just hammered Joe Oliver-who was supposedly a longtime family friend and close to Zimmerman-where Laurence showed that the only real connection between Zimmerman and Oliver is that they had worked for the same employer. Before that Oliver had mostly gotten softball questions.
If this is true what is the common employer they both worker for? This whole case has seemed to be a conspiracy of someone from the night when the Sanford police department called the state attorney-who has since stepped aside-to ask whether or not to drop the case. This is not normal for run of the mill local criminal investigations.
Who is really defending Zimmerman now? Are there powerful people and/or institutions behind him? If so, why?
While we certainly hope the special prosecutor will announce she is opening criminal proceedings against Zimmerman, but of course, there's some worry he's still in the country. As his mother is from Peru that's something you wonder about.
What is most outrageous to me is that Zimmerman has now opened his own website where he is actually asking for aid. Surely Sean Hannity will be tempted. Hannity may actually know where Zimmerman is for all we know as he won't discuss a phone call he said occurred between him and Zimmerman where Zimmerman cancelled an interview they had planned. If Zimmerman has disappeared maybe the special prosecutor should question Hannity.
While until now Zimmerman has not been accused of any crime-though he should have been-can't the police demand he not leave the country? I can't imagine who other than Hannity would "support" Zimmerman enough to give him money. Is there any motivation for donating other than you're an unreconstructed bigot?
On his website: "On a page titled “The Facts,” Zimmerman promised “the facts will come to light.”
Does this not sound too much like Althusser-the French Marxist philosopher who murdered his wife in 1980 and wrote a cryptic biography with a large section called the "facts?"

On the one hand I feel like maybe I shouldn't promote Zimmerman's website though in truth there could be a lot of material interest on it. Maybe he will get so much hate mail he'll have to close it down.
TheRealGeorgeZimmerman.com
I list this as I do feel that it's very rarely the best course to ignore information. While I had considered not printing the link I think nothing is really served by that. If it's an outrageous site it only further hurts his cause. And to me him soliciting money is already outrageous.
