More on The Republican War on Women

      I got to hand it to the chairman of the RSCC. Even for the Republican party he showed an impressive ability for spin when he recently claimed that Democrats are in trouble because of their gender gap with men. Nice try. But no.

    Actually the gender gap has gotten so bad that it is hurting the GOP in some Senate races now too-my concern has been that while I expect Obama to win re-election the early polling seemed to favor the Republicans at the congressional-and gubernatorial level. However the recent rising gender gap is hurting the GOP in the Senate races too.

    The RSCC guy showed his bias against women. He seemed to be saying well fine Democrats have an advantage with women but we have an equal advantage with men. Just a couple of problems with that. For one thing there is not a zero sum game between male and female voters where the more you appeal to women the less you appeal to men or vice versa. The movement is with women away from the Republicans not men towards the Republicans.

    In swing states what you see is that men are basically tied between Obama and Romney where Obama has opened up a huge lead among women of as much as 32 points. In any case even if you believed things were a zero sum game, you'd still all things being equal prefer to get women over men as there are more women and more women vote. As Nancy Pelosi once said,, Duh! Again, women are particularly repulsed by the GOP's blatant hostility to their rights. However, it's absurd to think men are impressed by it. Many of us men are just as repulsed.

   The one state that seems to resemble the zero sum game scenario is the Senate race in Massachusetts. There Scott Brown in his bid for re-election is in a virtual tie with Elizabeth Warren although he leads with men 43-30 because he trails with women 43-33. Warren is tied totally on the strength of the female vote.

  However what this shows is that the GOP gambit at making Obama's health care law requirements about birth control with religious organizations about religious liberty has really been a disaster. It was this issue that really got the ball rolling on this whole ideology that there is a Republican war against women  and thanks to it, Brown who dearly wants to be positioned as a moderate Republican in liberal Massachusetts is being harmed by the stance taken by the national Republicans and many state GOP parties like Bob McDonald's law down in Virginia.
