Kris Kobach: Romney Won't Support Republican Dream Act

Kobach is, of course, the Romney teams immigration advisor. All you need to know about Kobach is he's the guy who is the architect for Arizona and Alabama's draconian immigration laws. Kobach was out campaigning with Romney-on Martin Luther King day.

Now, Romney is "hiding his friendship with Kobach under a bushel" which the New Testament tells Christians not to do. Of course that he should do this is not surprising after what he was overheard saying to his donors on Sunday-that he needs a "Republican Dream Act" and that if he doesn't improve his numbers with Latinos "we're doomed."

This week the Romney team downgraded Kobach in public declaring him not an advisor but a mere supporter. However Kobach refuted that and also confidently declared that Mitt would not support any "Republican Dream Act." Being an "Etch a Sketch" is not as easy as it was supposed to be.

Meanwhile  Romney's numbers among Latinos are less than half McCain's 31% in 2008. McCain's numbers were by no means adequate, it's pretty well understood that any GOP candidate needs 40% to win a general election With a 14% rate with Latinos Romney has his work cut out for him. However, it doesn't look like the base-in the form of people like Kobach are going to even let him try.

"Details of Rubio’s proposed DREAM Act have not been announced, but the first-term senator has outlined a plan that would not offer a direct path to citizenship but would enable them to remain in the country legally. Despite his promise to veto the DREAM Act earlier in his campaign, Romney told a crowd at a private fundraiser that he wants a Republican DREAM Act to make the GOP the party of “opportunity.”

"But if Rubio’s plan includes a path to legal status, or if Romney supports a plan that does, then Kobach said it would be an “unacceptable” proposal. “A path to legal status for someone who is here illegally is amnesty by definition,” he said. “It gives the alien what he has stolen.”
