Melissa Francis a Pretty Smart Anchor

Having just finished my piece on Erin Burnett-where I argued for clemency, I came across this piece about Melissa Francis who has I also mentioned in that piece I kind of like Melissa as well as Erin. They are the two anchors on CNBC I could see having an actually decent conversation with given the right circumstances.

For the original piece please click here http://diaryofarepublicanhater.blogspot.com/2011/10/erin-burnetts-let-em-eat-cake-moment.html

For the piece on Melissa please see http://dailybail.com/home/cnbcs-melissa-francis-might-be-overstating-her-intelligence.html

First of all I disagree with the Daily Bail author I don't think she is overstating her intelligence. And if you watch the clip of her he puts up she comes across pretty well.

The idea that she thinks she's so intelligent is based on a part of the interview with Julie Menin is when Menin asked her what her dream job is she answered she would love a show like Kelly Ripa except that rather than Regis, having a younger, better looking " dumb pool boy type"; that she thinks women would respond to the idea of her being the smart one. They would like the dumb pool boy but kind of mock him a bit.

Oh just shut up Melissa. You had me at hello. LOL.

Her overall interview is pretty good. She has some good comments on women in journalism-according to here there was no cat fight between Erin and Michelle Caruso-Cabera which I tend to believe- and she pointed out in answer to Jon Stewart they did have David Faber talking about the subprime mortgage mess in 2007 at a time they were criticized for talking down the market.

The one spot I don't get is where she said she welcomed the competition from FOX Business News. While she said that till now the audience at FBN is no bigger than her high school-true and funny-still in time she's "sure" they will make it-I'm far from sure of that; what hurts them is the name FOX which has become synonymous with poor quality news. And then with the trouble's facing Rupert Murdoch with News of the World this further takes away from any possible FBN brand.

What I really don't get is her comment that she hopes they do as competition is good for CNBC and that for a long time they saw themselves as having no competition. No competition?! Has she really not heard of Bloomberg News?

What's further clear about the author of this piece is besides disagreeing with his characterization of Francis as being "average intelligence and ok delivery" I disagree with the whole premise of the site The Daily Bail, which is all about "Debt & Deficits. Bailout News. Federal Reserve Corruption" according to its subtitle.

In other words they are deficit and inflation hawks. Their faulty logic was behind the rise of the tea party and is what's stopping both U.S. lawmakers and the Federal Reserve as well as the Eurozone to do what is necessary to get us to properly deal with the financial crisis. Thanks a lot for nothing!
