Alisha Smith for Mayor

    This idea came to me today on the radio show http://planamerica.org/index.jsp talking with my co-host and web manager Turbo Kitty, Actually she initially suggested maybe Alisha Smith-aka Alisha Sparks- should run for something. I must say I agree, in fact I think I would vote her for anything. Think about it, she successfully led a securities fraud against Bank of America and other offending banks for the tune of $ 5 billion. She was directly commended by Andrew Cuomo who was then the NY Attorney General. And as her lawyer, Gloria Alldred says, "The issue of whether she does have a dominant personality, she feels it makes her successful as a lawyer." Alldred then added, "She's dominant in her personal life."

    While I almost hate to go down the road of yet another conspiracy theory-not because they're wrong but because there are so many and so easy and those who are credulous always find it wildly implausible-but perhaps the real reason for Smith's trouble is that she successfully prosecuted the banks for securities fraud. One can't help but remember what happened to Spitzer or for that matter Weiner. It does seem whenever anyone ruffles the feathers over certain powers that be they seem to come to an untimely demise where suddenly their personal peccadilloes become a public issue. The list is too long to name exhaustively. Remember Scott Ritter?

    I don't know if this is the angle, I know part of it is simply bigotry and discrimination. Some people feel that anyone-particularly a woman-who has a personal life that is not wholly vanilla this is grounds to destroy their livelihood-in this case Andrea Peyser of the New York Post says that Smith deserves her fate as she has embarrassed the "reputation of the state." Really? Is this what the state needs to be most embarrassed about? What about Ms. Peyser, is she embarrassed for working at a tabloid piece of sewer water like the Post for Rupert Murdock. Is she embarrassed by Smith's being a dominatrix on her own time but not for Murdoch's actions during the News of the World fiasco?

    Maybe those with kinky tastes really are the next civil rights issue. I'm always fairly uneasy over "morals clauses" etc as what it usually means is some uptight school board gets to fire a woman-for instance-naked pictures on the Web 10 years ago. Think about it: if we elected her for Mayor we would achieve so many good objectives all at once. We would elect the first female NY Mayor and someone who is not above holding corrupt financial firms to account. We'd also achieve a major victory for civil liberties. Maybe she'd even give out spankings to the guilty. OK, couldn't resist.

    In all seriousness I wish her all the best, hope her action against her bosses is successful employers learn that their employees private lives are just that, private. And yes I wish she would run for Mayor or something,
