Alisha Sparks: a Fascinating Woman

    I say this judging by the fact that she remains the topic here at Diary of a Republican Hater that has garnered the most interest by far over the last few weeks.  All three posts I have written about her starting  have been the top viewed off all the posts during that time. I guess the reason they always say sex sells is because, well, sex sells.

    So I guess I better give people what they want. Judging by the amount of readers for each of my posts, Alisha Smith(Sparks) and Edythe Maa (Jade Vixen) is one the 3 most popular subjects I've ever posted. The only subjects that got more views was Bretibart and my travails over at Firedoglake and Daily KOS.

   So what is it about Ms. Smith that generates such interest? Though her real name is Alisha Smith most of our hits have come from those searching for Alisha Sparks. Clearly sex does sell. In addition, I think it is one of these attraction-repulsion deals. Many find the idea of a dominatrix deeply off putting. Yet on some level it is also intriguing. They always say there is a thin line between love and hate.

  In the case of Alisha Smith there is a cross section of many different issues. There's the straight forward question of civil liberties: was she put on unpaid leave from her position as a lawyer in the New York Attorney General's Office for moralistic-puritanical reasons? While the official reason is that she violated a policy that says you can't earn more than $1000 in outside work from the office without permission you still have to wonder if she made that $1000 or more babysitting we'd be having this discussion. And talk about an awkward conversation.

  Again those who say Ms. Smith is unprofessional should bear in mind that she is no slouch, far from it, 3 years ago she earned special praise from then NY Attorney General Andrew Cuomo for her work in prosecuting Bank of America and other banks to pay major fines to the State of Ny.

  Another twist in the case though is that a tweet from Smith to her friend Edythe Maa was found asking about a lubricant called Erotic Power. Maa herself has been no stranger to controversy as 3 close male friends of hers have come up dead since 2008. In 2008 a former client killed her boyfriend and then himself and recently she found her boyfriend in the attic dead-police are suspicious but say there is no proof of any foul play. People who do a lot of the choke play often do themselves in I have been told.

   I guess what intrigues me is the idea that Alisha Smith evidently does this for her own pleasure-she makes close to $80,000 in the NY AG Office so it isn't the money. The idea that there are women who get into this for personal pleasure is interesting as it has been a source of debate for a long time. There is no doubt that there are men who get off on being dominated by women. It has been debated whether or not there are any woman who get off by dominating men. Again, it's the old Zizekean problem. The Big Other does not exist, There is no Sexual Relationship, Woman does not exist. Yet paradoxically Smith could imply that The Big Other does exist, there is a Sexual Relationship, and Woman does exist.
