Just Call Him Mr.41 Percent

I've got a reccomendation to the Serious Pundits. Stop trying to call a top for Trump's poll numbers. I'm thinking of many of them but none more so than Lawrence O'Donnell. I'm waiting to hear his explanation tonight for this one.

"Donald Trump just got a little more vault in his ceiling. Nationwide, the polling-obsessed Manhattan multi-billionaire and leading Republican presidential candidate broke into the 40s on Monday."

"According to the results of the latest Monmouth University poll surveying voters identifying as Republican or independents leaning toward the GOP, Trump earned 41 percent, nearly tripling the support of his closest rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who took 14 percent."

"By the way, this is not totally out of the blue either as he had a couple of polls last week which showed him at 35 percent and 36 percent respectively. There was a WSJ poll yesterday that showed him with a slightly tigheter lead over Cruz at 27-22. But you have to bear in mind that for whatever reason Trump hasn't done as well in the WSJ poll."

Actually he was up a few points in it but Cruz simply saw his numbers explode from last month-rising 15 points with almost all of it from Ben Carson.

One thing we have heard repeatedly from Lawrence and friends is that 30 percent was this hard ceiling that Trump couldn't get above. It was the darndest thing. Trump at 30 percent was in trouble while the Establishment candidates in low single digits were held to be the real candidates.

Lawrence kept saying that you can''t win the primary with 30 percent. He pointed out that Bernie also has 30 percent. Sure, but Bernie is in effectively a two person race. In a 14 person race, 30 percent is actually pretty good.

Ok, allegedly he had topped out. But this was just something assumed to be true as Serious Pundits just kept saying it was. Now he's at 40 percent in a 14 person race.

It seems that the Muslim ban didn't mark the end either.

"Trump celebrated the favorable findings with a series of tweets and a post on Facebook, featuring a graphic, that was shortly taken down after posting, without explanation."

"Looks like we just broke another polling ceiling," he wrote to his followers. "While the establishment schemes to nominate someone they control - the voters are clearly indicating that they want someone who will fix the broken political system in DC. Thank you for your support! We will ‪#‎MakeAmericaGreatAgain‬!"

Meanwhile, a Rubio consultant grouses that Trump is ruining Christmas in America. Ok, so for once it's not a Democrat destroying Christmas.

"GOP contenders prep for loud, ugly holiday season."

"Trump will ‘ruin Christmas for America,’ says a Rubio consultant."

“We won’t be taking a holiday break from the campaign this year. It’s going to be bang, bang, bang because we are in a different environment than ever before,” said Rick Wilson, a Florida-based consultant who has been one of Trump’s most vehement critics and is doing work on behalf of Rubio. “Because of the organic nature of Trump’s message, he can’t let it stop. He is great at the earned media game—but, like a shark, if he stops moving, he dies; and so everyone else has to keep moving, too. I think he’ll ruin Christmas for America.”
