Sam Bradford for Nick Foles: What Does Chip Kelly See That No One Else Sees?

We know he's a genius-particularly in his own mind. I guess he's playing the ultimate game of 11 dimensional chess because no one seems to know what he's getting at here. In the last 2 years we've seen him release DeSean Jackson and this year trade LeSean McCoy and not resign Jeremy Maclin. More or less the heart of his offense.

Steve A. Smith inferred racism in his moves but how do you explain this case of 'White on White crime' trading away Foles for Bradford? Not only does it seem that to move from Bradford to Foles is a major step down but he actually costs over 600% more. I just don't get it. Evidently no one else does either.

I like Mike Greenburg's tweet as it shows I'm not alone:

"Now it's official: I have no idea what Chip Kelly thinks he's doing."

Skip Bayless has a great line as well:

"I'll say it again: As a lifelong Cowboy fan, I'm overjoyed Chip Kelly is now the primary decision-maker for the Eagles."

As a lifelong Giants fan I'm not feeling too bad about it either, though I might ask Skip who's going to replace the 1800 yards DeMarco evidently won't be supplying next year. In any case, it's not hard to understand why Frank Gore said 'On second thought, no thanks, Chip Kelly, I'll go to play with the Colts and Andrew Luck.'

I've heard of genius being misunderstood, but Chip is taking it to a whole new level. Maybe this is all part of a bigger scheme to end up with Mariotta but what's clear is this: Chip Kelly may be a genius but what's he's doing better work. Right now without the benefit of his long view, I don't see how it does. They've done a few good things on defense, notably picking up Byron Maxwell.

It's true the Eagles defense needs to improve markedly from 2014 and arguably they've at least begun in that direction-we'll see if Kiki Alonso can stay healthy enough to help at linebacker. Still, Kelly has simply dismantled his offense-kind of like the Niners have dismantled their own team. Basically the Niners and Eagles are the 2 teams who seem to be making the most 'counterintuitive' moves and who in both cases I think you have to say: what you're doing better work or you're just going to get killed.

To think that Eagles fans were scratching their heads yesterday-before they lost Gore to the Colts and this latest trade of QBs.

   UPDATE: This puts it well:

"Here’s the problem with being a mad scientist: Most of the times, your inventions blow up in your face."

"In his latest “wait, what did you just say?” move, Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly traded last year’s starting quarterback, Nick Foles to the St. Louis Rams for almost-bust Sam Bradford, a quarterback coming off two ACL injuries and who’s started seven games in the past two years. The former No. 1 pick fields an unimpressive 18-30-1 record in his five-year career."

"It’s no secret Kelly wasn’t enamored of Foles, despite his 27 TD/2 INT performance in 2013, and there have been rumors for over a year that he’s considered working a trade for his former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, who is the draft’s second-best quarterback prospect. If that’s the long game, then maybe this move pays dividends. But the draft is a funny thing and deals have a way of falling apart like the Eagles in the playoffs. If Bradford doesn’t restructure or get sent packing, he’ll count $16.9 million million against Philly’s cap in 2015, which makes LeSean McCoy’s salary seem like a red-dot special. And without a move, the Eagles enter the season with Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez at QB."
