With Chip Kelly's Foles for Bradford Trade, it's Worse Than You Think

No one seems to have any idea what Kelly is doing.

Many thought his trade of LeSean McCoy for Kiki Alonso was a net loser-I certainly do. At least though, it made some discernable logical sense. You were giving up a great impact player for your team who generated a third of your offense, but at least you cleared up salary cap space. Maybe, you could reason, Chip figured he could fill some other needs-the Eagles clearly need all the help they can get on defense; and hey, you could have said at the time, they still have Jeremy Maclin.

Then they also let Maclin go. So they've now showed the door to their best receiver and best rusher. But even then, you could argue that Chip just wants his guys and he's going to get Mariotta-it seemed plausible that he'd trade

Now he lets go of Nick Foles who only had 27 TDs vs. 2 picks in 2013-albeit many of those TDs were to DeSean Jackson who Kelly dumped after the season. This trade seems to make no sense. You can't make the salary cap excuse as believe it or not Foles is just $1.5 million against the salary cap and Bradford is $13 million.

Nor can you make the durability as while Foles missed the second half of last season with an injury, Bradford hasn't started a regular season game since 2013 and has had the injury bug so far in his career.

So basically, the Rams get a better QB for less money and less of an injury history-and better draft picks? What's going on? What does the genius Chip Kelly see that the rest of us don't? Ok, I like many thought maybe this is part of his elevenity dimensional chess game to get Marriota.

Turns out it's worse than that: he apparently thinks that Bradford is this great catch. Tell me that somewhere, the Rams aren't laughing their asses off right now?

"If you're hoping that a trade for Sam Bradford will seemingly lead to Marcus Mariota, you may want to tame your expectations. It turns out that Eagles head coach Chip Kelly "came hard after Bradford," according to Sports Illustrated's Peter King."
"The Eagles completed a convoluted trade on Tuesday that sent Nick Foles to St. Louis with some draft picks to acquire Bradford and a fifth round selection from the Rams. Foles will now likely be the unquestioned starter in St. Louis, while Bradford seems destined to be "the man" in Philadelphia if the report by King is accurate."
"Following the initial trade report, local media and Eagles fans assumed this was a move to get into position for a trade to receive Mariota. However, this report seems to throw shade on the idea that the team could deal Bradford in a package for the Oregon passer. There is also the evidence of the mandatory 2016 second round pick that was sent to the Rams along with Foles."

Ok, I think I understand the method to Chip's madness. He really, honestly,  in his heart, believes that Sam Bradford is a better QB than Foles and not just a little bit but much better. How else do you explain why he takes $12 million more against the cap and actually worsens his draft position? He thinks he's traded an unimpressive QB for a much better one.
This, I believe, is dead wrong; clearly, the Rams think otherwise, and my guess is that the Rams will be proven gloriously right and Kelly will never live this one down. I think the Rams are a much better football team with this move-their problem was they lacked a bona fide starter and barring injuries, they now have that in spades.
If Foles can play more than Bradford-who wasn't playing at all, it's a huge win for the Rams. For the Eagles, I think it's a step back.
