Jerry Jones and Why Chris Christie is a Dream Opponent in any Presidential Race

If the GOP is stupid enough to nominate him, I say bring it on. I mean this latest is just Taylor made. It's right up there with Romney's 47%. Again, I can't see him going anywhere-I doubt even GOP primary voters will be this stupid. No question the best bet is Jeb Bush-though he is hardly bullet proof starting with his name.

If you're running against Christy the first thing you do is have a commercial with a nice glossy picture of 'the hug' between him and Jones-where Jones ignores his high five and Christy has to kind of push himself into the hug. Terry Bradshaw:

"Add some unnamed people in FOX's NFL studio on Sunday to the growing list of Chris Christie critics who think he shouldn't have been seen hugging Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones last Sunday."

"NFL analyst and former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw told WFAN's "Joe & Evan" on Tuesday that he didn't care what Christie did and that he liked him. But he added Christie "lost a lot of votes in our studio because everyone was just appalled that was acting like an idiot up there."

"When host Joe Benigno suggested it might be more acceptable for Christie to sit in the stands like an average fan, Bradshaw dropped a fat joke about the New Jersey governor: "The only reason he can’t sit in the stands is they don’t have a seat wide enough."

As usual for him, NJ's Bully n Chief promises to thumb his nose at the critics and keep hanging with Jerry.

Yeah, keep doing what you're doing. To me if you are in any way an opponent of Chris Christie, if he's ever done anything to use his office to harm you-there are many such folks in NJ-you want him hugging Jerry Jones as much as possible.

Again, running against him just do a montage of him and Jerry. Above, I called this a 47% moment. Some will claim I go too far, but they don't get it. What was great about Romney's 47% video was the optics of it. This was something that the average guy not plugged into politics like perhaps you and I could really wrap their head around. Sometimes when politicians do something ethically and/or legally treacherous it's not always easy for those who don't live and breath politics to understand exactly why it is so treacherous.

That was unfortunately the lesson of Lewinskygate: the GOP lynch mob was actually an egregious waste of public money and time but the average person can understand the idea of 'getting a BJ in the Oval Office from someone not your wife' and so it had a long shelf life.

The beauty of the 47% video is it was again very easy to wrap one's head around. Chris Christie, who has been dogged by ethics charges the last year with Bridgegate-once anything becomes a 'gate' this shows that is has become something easy for the public to wrap it's head around-now has some more bad optics to add to Bridgegate.

The beauty of 'the hug' is that it further magnifies what was already some pretty great optics with Bridgegate as it turns out that Jones' company won a contract from: the NJ Port Authority, which is the scene of Christie's crime-'time for some traffic problems on the GWB.'

Look, even I have to laugh ok. I mean this all started initially because a bunch of us Giants and Eagles fans-Jets fans as well but especially those of us who root for the Giants and Eagles as Dallas is our hated division rival-resented having to not only watch the refs gift wrap the game for Dallas but have the unedifying spectre of seeing Christie in his bright orange sweater carrying Jerry Jones' books and whispering sweet nothings in his ear.

However, the smarty pants pundits lectured us that we couldn't hold it against Christie for being a Cowboys fan. So what did we do? We have somehow stumbled onto something that very well could increase Christie's legal troubles. Honestly: if Bob McDonnell is going to jail because he's alleged to have promoted a dietary supplement in exchange for some expensive gifts why can't Christie for accepting what amounts to $25,000 to $30,000 in just one weekend in Dallas courtesy of Jones? Especially when you realize that what Jones has already gotten possibly thanks to the relationship with Christie-the contract from the PA-maybe dwarfs what you might get selling dietary supplements? What did McDonnell do that Christie didn't do?

Here's what they're saying in NJ:

"Start with the hypocrisy. Christie, when he was earning his fame for hauling in corrupt politicians as U.S Attorney, used to advice public officials to accept no gifts, not even a cheap lunch.
But Jerry Jones, the billionaire owner of the Cowboys, flew him and his family to Dallas in a private jet, and seated them in a luxury box."

"We asked the governor’s aides what the gift was worth, and they refused to answer. The Wall Street Journal quoted a high-end travel agent, who said these trips can cost $25,000 to $30,000 per head. That’s a lot of cheap lunches."

"The gift was legal, Christie’s office says, because a 2003 executive order allows governors to accept gifts from personal friends."

"But is Jones really a friend? He is a billionaire who made his money in the fossil fuel business. He could be extremely useful to Christie by introducing him to his Texas friends in the business. Note here that Christie has done all he can to support the oil and gas business, notably removing New Jersey from a regional pact to limit climate emissions."

"So when did these two becomes friends? How often to do they talk on the phone, or see one another in person? Did they become friends only when Jones started lavishing expensive gifts on Christie?"

"We asked the governor’s aides about that, and they refused to comment, no doubt on orders from the boss. We asked Susan Guerrero, a Christie appointee who runs the ethics commission, and she refused comment as well."

"Maybe they became friends when the Port Authority awarded a contract to run the observation deck at the 104-story One World Trade Center to a partnership that included the Cowboys. The agency expects to earn $875 million from that operation over the next 15 years."

"How much will Jones make on that deal? Again, no comment from Christie’s office.
Obviously, the legislature should take a fresh look at the law that supposedly permits this nonsense. We are dealing with a governor who knows no restraint. He is hoping to go to next week’s game in Green Bay, when the Cowboys take on the Packers."

"If the law is as permissive as Christie claims, then it is an open invitation to corruption and should be changed. At a minimum, the governor needs to come clean by describing his “friendship” with Jones, and disclosing the value of these gifts."

"It is hard to believe that Christie came to office promising a new level of openness in government. He routinely denies access to public records, and has lost over and overagain in the courts. Apparently, he feels no obligation to explain this behavior to voters."

"The governor has a taste for the finer things in life. This brings to mind the spankinghe received from the U.S. Justice Department when he was U.S. Attorney and stayed at expensive hotels that violated government guidelines."

"The governor has a right to be a Cowboy fan. But if he wants to go to Green Bay, why can’t he pay for it himself, as the rest of us do?"

A good question. I would say that his hug of Jones is a 'bridge too far' but you don't want to bring a bridge into the picture when talking about Christie: he'll probably shut ti down at least for Democrats and Giants fans!

Anyway, I can just see that commercial: first 'the hug.' Then a picture of the GWB. Then a picture of Wildstein from the Port Authority. Then maybe Jones' observatory. Maybe then the scene where he savages a young female teacher in public and has his henchman tape it so he can show it on youtube.

Talk about the gift that keeps on giving. And this dream political ad of mine all starts with the hug.
