Al Sharpton More Popular Than Patrick Lynch in NYC

I wrote it this way as a I see a lot of pundits are trying to frame this as 'Sharpton and Lynch are equally unpopular.' Actually, no, Sharpton's numbers aren't so good-with such a polarizing reputation it's maybe not so surprising-but I do find it's interesting that his numbers are actually considerably better than Lynch's.

"Fifty-three percent of those questioned said unfavorable, while 29 percent said favorable. But the results varied dramatically by demographic, with 56 percent of black voters signaling their support for Sharpton, while only 16 percent of white voters did."

"According to the poll, 51 percent of those questioned said Sharpton was a mostly negative force in New York City."
"These were Sharpton's lowest Quinnipiac scores ever."
"It's probably cold comfort, but Sharpton has a partner in disrepute in Lynch, president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association."

See what I mean? Why is Lynch his partner with numbers like this?
"Seventy-seven percent of voters said Lynch's assertion that the mayor's office had "blood on its hands" after the execution of two police officers in Brooklyn last month was "too extreme."
"In addition, 69 percent of those questioned disapproved of police turning their backs on the mayor at the officers' funerals, part of an anti-de Blasio police movement spearheaded by Lynch."
"Only 18 percent of New Yorkers have a "favorable" impression of Lynch, the poll found, and 43 percent of voters think he's a "mostly negative" force in New York City."
I find this juxtaposition of Sharpton and Lynch rather odd. Lynch's vile words were spoken against not Sharpton but the duly elected Mayor of New York City, de Blasio. His numbers are considerably better even than Sharpton's-and the best numbers go to his Commissioner:
"Police commissioner Bill Bratton's job performance, on the other hand, won the approval of 56 percent of New Yorkers, his highest approval rating since June."
"The poll didn't ask about de Blasio's general job performance but, the poll found, 50 percent of New Yorkers approve of the way de Blasio is handling crime, up from 46 percent in December."
"Forty-eight percent approve of his handling of relations between blacks and whites, while 42 percent disapprove. More New Yorkers disapprove (52 percent) than approve (41 percent) of his handling of police-community relations."
Clearly the Mayor beats Lynch by a New York Marathon. I kind of like this takeaway: the most unpopular person in NY is Lynch. We can all agree on that at least.
"New York City voters, black, white and Hispanic, disapprove 69 - 27 percent of police officers turning their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio at funerals for two police officers, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today."
"Police union leader Patrick Lynch's comments that the mayor's office had blood on its hands are "too extreme," voters say 77 - 17 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe- ack) University Poll finds. There is no party, gender, racial, borough or age group which finds the comments "appropriate."

It's also a positive sign that a majority of New Yorkers like Bratton. He's clearly a very good man and it's fortunate we have someone like that in his position-certainly New Yorkers have done much worse: remember Ray Kelly, Mr. Stop and Frisk?

All these point to signs that things may be heading in the right direction. Even the police unions themselves may be turning on Lynch.
