Chris Christy and Jerry Jones' Very Special Relationship: It's Worse Than You Think

I know some will say it doesn't matter who Chris Christy roots for in football and, look, there is more than enough reasons to not like Christy and believe that he is a miserably corrupt bully he hopefully has served in his last high office there in Jersey.

While H.L. Mencken may be right that no one ever went broke underestimating the American people I have to think that Christy is one big gaping mistake the country won't make-I don't even think GOP primary voters would get it that wrong.

Still, it just seems so appropriate that he's a fan of 'America's team' that represents fat cats and privilege as opposed to a team like the Giants who is the working man's football team, a blue collar football team. Ok, maybe it seems like I'm taking team partisanships too far. Still, think about the whole idea of America's Team. I mean what have the Cowboys done to earn this? Was there a vote? If so, I didn't get a vote. Kind of like the 2000 election where my vote didn't count. Like everyone who voted for Al Gore. Maybe Sandra Day O'Connor is the one who made Dallas America's Team as well.

In truth I shouldn't attack Sandra as at least she feels regret.

Show me Christy ever taking any responsibility for anything. His usual posture is to do a Judge Judy: pee on your leg then tell you it's raining.

Yes, Christy's hanging on Jerry Jones' leg like a little-or not so little-puppy is pathetic and sad.

It also makes you wonder just how many gifts has he received from Jerry Jones, considering Christy's status as a high ranking public servant. I mean his trip was on Jones' dime. By the way, Jones is not apolitical but is a big donor Republican.

"New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie watched his beloved Cowboys win a playoff game Sunday in Dallas, hugging and yukking it up with Jerry Jones in the Cowboys owner’s luxury suite.
The trip, however, is proving to be controversial. Christie flew to Dallas and accepted the ticket to the game at the expense of the Cowboys’ owner, who just so happens to have a business relationship with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The state’s Code of Conduct says that governors “may accept gifts, favors, services, gratuities, meals, lodging or travel expenses from relatives or personal friends that are paid for with personal funds.”
"The sticky issue is that the governor of New Jersey, along with the governor of New York, controls the Port Authority, and Legends Hospitality, a company in which Jones has an interest, has been given a license to run an observation deck atop One World Trade Center, which is operated by the Port Authority. The New York Yankees and Checketts Partners Investment Fund own Legends, along with the Cowboys, and the company’s One World Trade Center deal is expected to produce $875 million in revenue over 15 years for the Port Authority. The Yankees’ Randy Levine, a board member of Legends Hospitality, said Jones was not involved in the negotiations with the Port Authority for the observation deck contract. Levine did, though, tell the Wall Street Journal that Jones’s family is a “significant” investor."

Turns out it's worse than we even initially thought. Not only does this raise new ethics questions for Christy's ethically challenged Administration it's linked to Bridgegate.

No doubt, Christy defenders may try to do a Steve Scalise and say 'Yeah the optics are bad but it just looks bad. It isn't really bad.' I look like a White Supremacist but really I'm not.' You know Christy just looks like he might be doing something else ethically problematic-but in truth it's just bad optics.  Not so fast:

"Less than two years before Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones paid for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s tickets and travel to NFL games, government documents show Christie personally pushed the Port Authority to approve a lucrative contract for a firm part-owned by Jones. Christie nonetheless accepted the gifts from Jones, despite New Jersey ethics rules barring gifts to public officials from persons or entities that those officials “deal with, contact, or regulate in the course of official business.”

"On March 19, 2013, Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a press release announcing their selection of Legends Hospitality LLC to operate the observation deck on the top floor of One World Trade Center. The next day, the Port Authority board -- which is appointed by Christie and Cuomo -- specifically cited the governors’ announcement in voting to approve the contract for the company, which is jointly owned by the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and Checketts Partners Investment Fund."
The Port Authority press release announcing the vote quotes Dallas Cowboys executive Jerry Jones Jr. as saying: "We are humbled to have been chosen to operate the Observatory Deck."

I think those of us living in the NY-NJ area are a little humbled at this point as well. That nothing ever seems to humble Christy shows how unfit for higher office, and how dangerously sociopathic, he really is. If you don't think sociopath is a fair assessment, you apparently haven't ever watched a Christy press conference.

He truly thinks he's above the normal rules and codes of conduct. If he weren't so disrespectful about appearances he might not have this Jerry Jones problem to add to Bridgegate. However, as usual his 'Let em eat cake' attitude is biting him in a very large part of his anatomy.
