I honestly loved the entire night. It's tough to even say who the best were. There were so many great speeches and great lines.
The night started with a great speech by the Democratic women of the House. Then a speech close to my heart had Jimmy Carter on video from his home hailing the President and telling us how happy he is to be able to vote for Obama again.
I'm so happy for Jimmy, that a good old fashioned liberal Southern Democrat got to see the day when he could vote for the first Black Democratic President, not once, but twice.

It's funny to hear Ryan and Romney attack President Carter so relentlessly. What they fail to see is that the American people love Jimmy Carter, unlike George W. Bush he's very popular. It's ironic that they claim that Democrats shouldn't still be mentioning W when they still pick on Jimmy Carter.
Meanwhile, the proof is in the pudding. Democrats are proud to have the Octogenarian speak at our convention whereas nobody in the GOP wants to be seen in public with W.
There were lots more great moments. There was former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland who got the best lines of the night talking about Romney's off-shoring and tax havens.
"The first night of the Democratic National Convention got a touch of William Jennings Bryan last night with former Ohio governor Ted Strickland’s stemwinder attacking Mitt Romney as a liar who outsourced American jobs. To Romney, Strickland declared, “all profits are created equal, whether made on our shores or off,” adding that the GOP nominee has “so little economic patriotism that even his money needs a passport…Barack Obama is an economic patriot. Mitt Romney is an outsourcing pioneer.”

Speaking of which my man Harry Reid did it again, went after Romney's refusal to release his tax returns and his tax havens again. I love it. Of course this drives the Very Serious People crazy. The following link is just such an example.

Indeed coming into the night, Krugman warned that many of the VSP media-a la David Brooks-is going to want to call out Democrats for not telling the truth as Paul Ryan got called out so much.
Krugman warns we may be facing an "orgy of false equivalence" over the next three days-to show they aren't liberal or biased.
"That’s what I expect over the next three days from the news media. There was no way to gloss over the extraordinary dishonesty on display in Tampa — but the urge to be “balanced” will probably mean enormous efforts to portray whatever Joe Biden, for example, says as being just as bad as Ryan’s barrage of deceit. Never mind whether there’s any real equivalence, which there probably won’t be.
I hope I’m wrong."

I did see some signs in CNN right after the convention of Erin Burnett making a big deal of "fact checking" the Democrats. It's not auspicious: she claims that the claim that the President created 4.5 million jobs is false as it fails to factor in the first few months of his Administration when we were hemorrhaging jobs but before his policies could realistically have any effect on the economy.
She's the one who's not telling the truth-or she's ignorant. Any economist will tell you that to assess Obama you can't factor in those first few months of 750,000 lost jobs per month.
Then we had great speeches by Deval Patrick who told us all about the weak economy Mitt Romney presided over in Massachusetts. It's no wonder he doesn't want to discuss his own record as Governor.
We had San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro's masterful speech. He could be a future Governor of Texas or even the first Hispanic President in the future.
But Michelle Obama stole the night.
Michelle Obama's message: President Barack Obama is just like you.
"Barack knows the American Dream because he's lived it," the first lady told the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday in an address intended to reassure voters that her husband share their values – hard work, perseverance and optimism – while also drawing a contrast between him and Mitt Romney.
Mrs. Obama never mentioned the president's Republican challenger, who grew up in a world of privilege and wealth."
"But the point was clear as she weaved a tapestry of their early years together, when money was tight and times were tough, when they were "so in love, and so in debt." She reminisced about the man who now occupies the Oval Office pulling his favorite coffee table out of the trash and wearing dress shoes that were a size too small. And she told stories about a president who still takes time to eat dinner with his daughters nearly every night, answering their questions about the news and strategizing about middle-school friendships."
"She did a great job of calling out Romney without mentioning his name. And I have to say-Ann Romney's speech was not the real thing. Michelle Obama's was. Ann was trying to sound like her without having the experience or any genuine understanding and empathy of those with the experiences of average Americans."
Ann Romney's "I love you women" could not have been more contrived. Michelle Obama is the genuine article.
The First Lady ended what was a great night with a grand slam.
The Dems really had didn't have a very tough act to follow in the very mediocre RNC convention last week. The polls show it was a bust.
But they really had a tremendous night.
