Is This How Romney Plans to Win the Debates?

The debates are taking on an almost mythical status for Romney now. There's no real precedent for them having the outsized impact he needs but as the Convention was the place where he needed to make it happen was a bust all the eggs have been put in this basket.

To be sure, many Americans through early voting will have already voted before the debates.

So while many GOPers admit that he'd be in trouble if it were today, it actually is today from many swing states or will be so very soon.

However, in Ohio-where the trend is strongly going against him right now, he made another curious argument:

"I’m going to champion small business. Small business, where jobs come from. And let me tell you how to do that. One, as Senator Portman said, we’ve got to reform our tax system. Look, small businesses typically pay tax at the individual tax rate. And so, our individual income taxes are ones I want to reform, make them simpler. I want to bring the rates down. By the way, don’t be expecting a huge cut in taxes, because I’m also going to lower deductions and exemptions. But by bringing rates down, we’ll be able to let small businesses keep more of their money, so they can hire more people.”

This is how he plans to beat the President in the debates? Romney is sounding like a student that has crammed too much for his exam.

If there's no "huge cut in taxes" then how are small businesses going to keep more of their money?

Here's what Errick Erickson is saying: "Here's the thing: I'm pretty sure the Romney team knows they are losing and I'm pretty sure they know they don't know what to do about it."
