Turns Out Romney Didn't Even Give Us One Full Year of Taxes

It had appeared that he had give us one and a half years-2010, and said he would give us the full 2011 return "before the election."

Now it emerges that he hasn't even fully disclosed 2010:

"Romney released his 2010 tax return in January of this year, a document that first informed voters about the existence of his Swiss bank account and financial activities in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. But people who own foreign bank accounts are required to file a separate document with the IRS that provides additional details on such overseas bank holdings, and Romney has not released that form to the public."

This makes you remember the Newt Gingrich quip that Mitt Romney is the first American he's ever known with a Swiss bank account. He's certainly the first presidential candidate with one and the first who has refused to release his tax returns. With all the whining about an apology from bad old Stephanie Cutter, the one thing she said we might question is that he is the most secretive candidate since Nixon.

Nixon after all disclosed his tax returns way back in 1952 in the cause of total transparency. Nixon actually as a candidate often tried for transparency-a little less a President it's true.

Now we have Ann Romney again being her husband's advocate:

"You know, you should really look at where Mitt has led his life, and where he’s been financially," she said. "He’s a very generous person. We give 10 percent of our income to our church every year. Do you think that is the kind of person who is trying to hide things, or do things? No. He is so good about it. Then, when he was governor of Massachusetts, didn’t take a salary for four years."

Yeah, that was mighty big for a man with $250 million dollars mostly of it out of the country to not take a salary. What a paragon of civic virtue. She repeated the old canard that the reason he wont release his taxes is because it will be used by the Obama campaign in opposition research. This tired refrain ignores that if there's no smoke no one can claim fire. This is why after the President released his long form birth certificate that was the end of Birtherism.

She claimed that we've received all we need to know about her husband's finances. No, Mrs. Romney, we haven't even  received all we need to know about 2010.
