I find that this is the kind of mainstream press (MSM) item that really gets on my nerves. It's trivial-of course. That's part of what gets on my nerves. With all the real problems and concerns in the world, the MSM half the time loves the trivial story line that really doesn't matter any way yet they blow it up into some major talking point of discussion.
The pieces done yesterday about the "phenomenon" of black Mormons and how they are "torn" is exactly the kind of thing I mean. Basically making mountains out of mole hills.
Supposedly, black Mormons don't know what to do-do they vote their race-Obama-or do they vote their faith-Romney. This thumbnail sketch of this so called phenomenon shows the whole shabbiness of the premise. It's little more than the idea that black people are weak minded and vote just based on their own race, religion, or creed.
"Twenty years ago, who would have predicted the 2012 U.S. presidential race would pit a black incumbent against a white Mormon?"

The title of the piece says it all: 'Black Mormons face a choice like no other" Why though is it such a hard choice? Because they have to decided whether they will be "loyal" to their religion or their race? This is exactly the Republican attitude on things like the gender gap and the gap with Latinos.
You know women will vote for Romney if his wife is by his side when he campaigns or he's standing next to GOP women-all who voted against fair pay for women. Or Rubio should bridge the divide with Latinos-you can tell them to "self-deport" but all if forgiven if your Veep candidate is Latino. That's all that matters. Women and Latinos don't care about matters of policy just the candidates' race, sex, religion, and creed.
As far as blacks are concerned they don't simply mindlessly vote for the black guy as is proven by how people like Herman Cain never siphon off any meaningful support from African Americans. Let's be honest though. There is no history of Mormons being segregated into separate but equal schools and forced to use Negro only restrooms and water fountains. On the other hand in the days of Jim Crow, being a Mormon would not save you from any of it.
