The Only Contemptible Thing is Darrell Issa

The GOP will be spinning a new one now as there seems to be a good chance Attorney General is about to be held in contempt.

We'll here all the breathless beating of a dead horse-'Never before in the history of the Republic has an Attorney General been held in contempt."

Just so, which tells you that  there must be fairly extraordinary reasons to do such a thing. The actual case is nothing but a trumped up witch hunt that Issa has been peddling for two years.

Indeed this case has all the similar marks of another "unprecedented" moment in US history-the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton. Although we heard a lot about how this would tarnish the man forever no one remembers it now least of all the GOP who these days mostly hold up Clinton as almost a Democratic saint ironically.

Now it's all about why can't Obama be like Clinton, why didn't he do a Clinton, Clinton showed how a Democrat should run the country. He had a surplus-yes he passed the balanced budget bill in 1993 with not a single GOP vote, but that's all forgotten now.

So it will be with Holder. Just like the Clinton impeachment, this contempt vote is nothing but a politically motivated joke. No one remembers Clinton's impeachment because in retrospect it's so obviously frivolous.

Just like the impeachment vote, today's committee contempt vote was strictly on a party line vote:

"The vote was 23-17, along party lines. The contempt resolution was approved despite the Obama administration asserting executive privilege over the documents sought by Congressman Issa. Updates to come."

"CBS News reports that the full House will have a vote to hold Holder in contempt next week. If the resolution passes it would be the first time in history the House has found a cabinet member in contempt of Congress."
