Obama clearly pulled off a coup on Friday. It has greatly increased Latino voter enthusiasm and will also help him with his larger liberal base as well as many independents just as gay marriage did.
Just what a big coup it was can also be seen from all the GOP whining without any coherent narrative about what exactly the President did that was so objectionable. Where's the beef?
George Will is a great example. He says that he agrees with the Dream Act too. So where is the problem? Well Obama "usurped" something. Like Sean Hannity was all tying himself into knots today about how Obama doesn't care about the Founders by doing this.
By Will admitting that Obama's not wrong on the policy, he underscores the weakness of his own position. Honestly, are we expected to believe that Obama invented the Executive Order? Hardly. In fact George W. Bush used it an unprecedented amount.
The weak position of the GOP protests shows that Obama nailed this one. This is why they have no coherent narrative. Romney had been dodging questions. He's in the worst possible position. Rubio was supposed to bail him out. He was going to draft a bill that would give young illegal immigrants who had done nothing wrong themselves and clearly had the chance at bright futures some relief by at least letting them go to college.
Obama totally swamped this. Now there's not much of anything the GOP can do. Will says that Obama should have let Congress do it's job. He can say this with a straight face. This is the most dysfunctional, useless Congress in history and he wants to wait for them to do their job? When might that me Mr. Will?
Rubio's bill was going nowhere and likely wouldn't have passed this year anyway. So the Latino people must suffer another year waiting for useless Republican Congressmen to finally do their job. Romney whined that Obama should have did in the "first three and a half years."
See what I mean about flaccid criticism? They have nothing. As usual it's all politically motivated without any substance. Romney ran one of the most aggressive anti Latino campaigns in memory during primary. Now he's demanding that Obama do nothing productive for the last six months of his term. Yeah that's how it works-the President should just mail it in the last six months for Romney's benefit.
"Mitt Romney refuses to say whether he’d repeal the Obama administration’s decision to stop deporting certain undocumented immigrants."
"In an interview with Bob Schieffer aired Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee five different times declined to answer whether he would conduct the same policy President Barack Obama on Friday announced his Department of Homeland Security will now pursue."
"Instead of answering the question posed, Romney called for a permanent solution. "With regards to these kids who were brought in by their parents through no fault of their own, there needs to be a long-term solution so they know what their status is,” Romney said. “This is something Congress has been working on, and I thought we were about to see some proposals brought forward by Sen. Marco Rubio and by Democrat senators, but the president jumped in and said I'm going to take this action, he called it a stop-gap measure. I don't know why he feels stop-gap measures are the right way to go.”
"After Schieffer asked, directly, four additional times if Romney would repeal the policy without receiving an answer, Romney called the move political."
“I think the timing is pretty clear, if he really wanted to make a solution that dealt with these kids or with illegal immigration in America, than this is something he would have taken up in his first three and a half years, not in his last few months,” he said.
"Romney has yet to offer an opinion on the merits of Obama’s immigration policy change. On Friday, he told reporters in New Hampshire that he supports Rubio’s proposal, which has yet to be introduced in the Senate."

Right. We can't have a President actually do his job-the last six months should be about the campaign. On the other hand we should elect a nominee who has nothing to say about what he will do. The thing to do is elect him first. Maybe he'll tell us what he'll actually do later.
