No surprise, coming from not just a confirmed gold bug, but a confirmed gold coins bug-he wants to take us back to the monetary policy not of the 19th century but the 18th.
However, no doubt there's another reason why he's inveighing against "letting the Fed bail us out every time" on CNBC this morning. What a shock that Mitch McConnell's party is against anything that can help the economy.
Ryan was saying that we need 150,000 jobs a month just to keep up with population growth. Yet he also claimed the reason we missed that this month was because of the President's failed policies. Yet, the President passed the stimulus, and urged Congress to pass his Jobs Bill that if Ryan and his friends in the GOP had passed we would have hit 150,000 today.
He also ignores that as Krugman says, this month was largely noise-it was not really representative of jobs gained in previous months or what we'll likely see again.
I'm astonished by the level of shamelessness of Romney-Ryan, they way they cheerlead for bad numbers, they way they salivate at their prospect.
And the way they admit that their priority is not recovery but defeating the President. Why doesn't Ryan stop pointing his finger and look in the mirror? What have he and his Republican friends done for the recovery? The President has given us 4.5 million new jobs since January 2010. How many jobs have Ryan created?
Take his claim that the President's policies have made things worse. What policies are these? His stimulus made things better. If Ryan had really wanted a recovery he would have passed the Jobs Bill rather than cheerlead bad news.
What's really strange is that while he says the President's policies failed, he actually took stimulus funds for his state and applied for ACA funds.
He claims we should go to a gold coin standard while implicitly admitting that the Fed can improve the economy by further stimulus. Why then does he want to eliminate it then?
Ryan's hypocrisy is as impressive as his hypocrisy.
