For N.Y. Giants 5th Time Better Be the Charm

Four straight losses for the Giants (6-6) and yet they remain very much in it. They need to stop the bleeding now this week going into Dallas.(7-5).

For a team that just lost its 4th straight things don't look that bleak. While there are no moral victories in football, last Sunday's last second 38-35 loss to the undefeated Packers (12-0) really did have significant positives.

After losing 49-24, the G-men had nothing to hang their hats on. It was tough not to question themselves on some level. This last week's effort showed what is hopefully true: that they can play with any team in the league. That is their M.O. This year they beat the Patriots again the first time since they beat upset the 18-0 Patriots in 2007.

Sunday's game was very similar actually to the first time they played the Patriots in 2007, even losing by the exact same score-38-35. After this they have to believe they can play with anyone, certainly they should be able to play the Cowboys.

This is a an unusual Giants team. Defense has not been their strength this year. Despite all the knocks Eli gets and yes he's still capable of the kind of terrible interception he threw Sunday that was returned over 90 yards for a touchdown. Still he is the heart and soul of this team. Would they be here at all without him?

The defense needs to step up as does the running game, either Jacobs or Bradshaw whoever can. The Massey-Peabody rankings actually saw the Giants ranking rise, though they're still only at 16th. Still according to M-P they played the better game against Green Bay.

Again they should be able to play the Cowboys and after 4 straight losses they should be able to win. If they don't then they just aren't a playoff team. And Coughlin-rightly or wrongly-may not be back.
