In 2016 the Choice for Latinos Looks Clear

In the last election, unfortunately, many Latinos sat out of the election and came to think there is on difference between a Democratic part that wants immigration relief and reform but lacks the votes to do everything they want and a Republican part dead set against such reform.

"Once again, most of the American Latino community failed to perform its most basic civic duty - voting. Complaining and whining, a majority of Latino voters stayed home. Not helping matters, Spanish-language media, sometimes incapable of decoding and explaining basic American politics, convinced millions of Latinos that President Obama, and by extension all Democrats, could not be trusted any more than the Republicans that have systematically blocked comprehensive immigration reform."

Surely, this mistake will not be made again.

"As was entirely expected, a federal judge in Texas has temporarily blockedPresident Obama’s executive actions shielding millions from deportation. This was probably inevitable given the previous excursions into incendiary rhetoric about immigration from this particular judge, George W. Bush appointee Andrew Hanen."

"For all practical purposes, however, the judge’s action may not give Republicans a way out of the current political standoff in Washington over whether to fund the Department of Homeland Security, which is intensifying as the funding deadline looms later this month."

"One key question is whether Republicans will now agree to fund Homeland Security cleanly. After all, the Courts have shown they are blocking Obama’s lawlessness, so there’s no longer any need for keeping the measures that roll back Obama’s actions in the bill funding DHS, right?"

"Well, maybe. The problem for Republicans is that the administration will immediately ask the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to lift the injunction blocking Obama’s action, and Republicans cannot count on winning at that stage. This could create a dilemma for GOP leaders. They may argue — internally, at least — for funding DHS cleanly now, to escape the political jam they are in. But we may not know for a few weeks how the 5th Circuit will rule, which means that sooner rather than later Obama’s actions could very well be allowed to proceed. And so, conservative may insist — understandably — that GOP leaders refrain from funding DHS cleanly, and continue demanding the inclusion of measures rolling back Obama’s action, just in case the Texas judge’s injunction is lifted."

The choice for the GOP whether to fund the DHS even while they fan the flames over ISIS or to wait until they make sure Obama's reform to help millions of Latinos not be deported is overturned.
Surely, even the Latino media won't have a hard time explaining the stakes this time? If ever you want an election where it matters which side wins this is it.
The GOP is the party that seeks to maximize deportations and the Dems are the party to minimize them. What's the reservation? That some other party that doesn't exist would do a better job when not having the votes? Call this the Firedoglake option.
