Yes, Jeff Harwood, Obama Has Tried to Work With Republicans

In the President's first interview post shutdown, Harwood of NBC asked him about calling Republicans names, suggesting that their 'crazy' and 'stupid.' Harwood seemed to be worried that with such an attitude the President was hurting the chances of a deal.

He rightly pointed out that he's been trying to work with Republcans for 5 years to no avail. Yet Harwood now seems to think if he would just stop being mean to them maybe the government shutdown would be over. Yes. Just be nice to them and they'll release the hostages.

Boehner and company are claiming that the Democrats are the bad guys: last night Boehner peevishly complained that the Obama and Harry Reid 'won't negotiate.' Because let's face it, if the Republicans start shooting hostages it's the Democrats' fault for not doing whatever they want.

Yesterday I likened the GOP to an abusive father. I think the analogy is apt. This is totally the kind of logic the Republicans are using. If I hurt you bad it;s your fault for not doing what I want. If you don't do whatever I want I'll hit you and it will be your fault for making me do it.

Meanwhile, of course, Rush Limbaugh and friends are selling this piece of fiction that the Democrats forced a shutdown-indeed they 'wanted it.' Rush also is mocking the 800,000 furloughed workers, He seems to think because the total of Americans out of work are in the millions, 800,000 is a paltry number which just goes to show, that, big surprise, he's an economic illiterate.

If you want more proof-though I don't get why you still need more-that the GOP is like an abusive father-and that's why I like to say I'm a Republican hater; it's a no-brainer, kind of like being an hater of abusive fathers; what I find surprising is not that I hate them but that others find abusive fathers tolerable-'ok, who are we to judge?'-just look at the anti-abortion and anti birth control laws popping up in GOP dominated states.

If people have't figured out by now that the only hope is to give Democrats a super majority in all 3 branches of government I don't know what will. In any case, hopes that the GOP had learnt something from 2012 are hopefully seen to be vain now. I never thought they would learn much. However, even I didn't realize how little. I mean I did think one lesson they had learned was not to use a government shutdown as a bargaining chip. Even in assuming that I'd given them entirely too much credit.

Rush almost told the truth when he said that this is a deliberate desire to casue pain however it's not the Democrats who are deliberately causing pain. It's his Republican friends. He himself is part of it as he sadistically laughs at the mess his Tea Party is making of the country.

For more illustrations of why the GOP is an abusive father see conservatives mocking poor mothers who can't get food at a pantry as 'no big deal.' Actually Bill Kristol thinks it's not 'the end of the world' and it surely isn't. Not for him. There's your compassionate conservatism in action.

P.S. The implication of Harwood's question is that the GOP is putting us through all this because their feelings have been hurt which sounds a lot like the first shutdown when Gingrich was upset about being snubbed on Air Force One. So while Rush claims that the Dems have done this deliberately, this is contradicted by the complaint that Obama is not being helpful by not being nice to Republicans. It suggests that they are the ones deliberately doing this out of spite because the President has been unkind to them.

  1. Well, Obama has finally done it. He moved the Dow down today with his simpering speech. After all these years, it finally can't be denied that the guy is in over his head.

  2. WOW, Obama has the power to move the Dow??? Just by speaking?

At least give him credit for one of the biggest four year rallies in the Dow ever then!

Or is your position he only has one way powers?
