Typical Republican logic. Because of what happened in their aborted attempt to use the govt shutdown and the debt ceiling for leverage, now they can't do immigration reform. Of course, before they were really giving the matter a proper hearing with it sitting on the shelf gathering dust after the Senate passed comprehensive reform way back in June.
"House Republicans have been subtly angling for months to quash immigration reform. But aftergetting rolled by Democrats in the spending and shutdown fights, conservatives who call the shots in the chamber are more determined than ever to block an overhaul and imperil President Barack Obama's second-term priority."

This just again points out the fact that we have minority rule. Most of the country wants this, including Wall St. and wealthy Republican donors.

As President Obama noted on Thursday:
"There's already a broad coalition across America that's behind this effort of comprehensive immigration reform -- from business leaders to faith leaders to law enforcement. In fact, the Senate has already passed a bill with strong bipartisan support," the president said. "And it's sitting there waiting for the House to pass it. Now, if the House has ideas on how to improve the Senate bill, let's hear them. Let's start the negotiations. But let's not leave this problem to keep festering for another year, or two years, or three years. This can and should get done by the end of this year."

The one thing Republican logic does not dictate is learning anything. Mitch McConnell recently pointed out that you can't learn from being kicked by the mule a second time.

That's true unless you're talking about Republican Congressmen as Joe Scarborough-who is a friend and a conservative-notes with regret.

If they simply let immigration reform crack from rust on the shelf then it will certainly give another impetus to make sure that we get a Dem House as soon as possible. While the money would be that the Dems can't pick up the House in the 6th year off election year the fiasco of govt shutdown 2.0 may give them a real shot-just keep replaying the tape.
Certainly anyone frustrated by they way they're snuffing immigration reform-including of course immigration and Hispanic groups-will also be working very hard towards this end.
It's clear though that the GOP philosophy is to never learn anything from failure but just keep on repeating and hope for a different result.
P.S. So quashing immigration reform is going to save the GOP? Again you have to admire the alternative universe that the inhabit. Presumably through all those phantom White voters they're going to bring back to the polls. This is an urban legend that Karl Rove has tried to get them to give up, to no avail.
