Anthony Weiner and Kenneth Cuccienlli Take Us Back to the Future

I have to remind myself what year this is. Weiner. a surging Democratic candidate for NYC Mayor and Cuccinelli a Republican candidate for Governor of Virginia seem to both be linked to sex in their past. Weiner is somehow suspected for too much of it-though what's strange is that his ' crimes', such as they are, don't actually involve any actual sex at least not outside the cyber, virtual world.

He stands accused of sending some risque tweets to female friends on Twitter-it was consensual, these were friends who were following him and clearly they were in on the joke. Yet or this reason Weiner had to resign from the House a few years ago.

"New York City mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner apologized anew Tuesday for “wrong and hurtful” behavior after additional pictures and texts with a woman emerged on the gossip website thedirty.com — roiling the high-profile race as Weiner had emerged as a top candidate."

"The website asserted this week that Weiner carried on an online relationship from July until November 2012 with a woman who was not named. If that timing is accurate, it would mean that Weiner continued to engage in the type of conduct that forced him to resign his seat in Congress in 2011."

"Weiner did not confirm the timing of the alleged exchange in his statement, saying only that some elements of the site’s reports were accurate and others not. The uproar threatens to unravel Weiner’s surprisingly strong performance in the race since he launched his bid in May: A Quinnipiac University poll last week had him leading the crowded Democratic primary field."

The timing will be a big issue so time will tell if it is nailed down that this video was in 2012. Still you wonder who made this public-it wouldn't shock me if this is opposition research as he has been doing so well and this so bothers all our Very Serious People-including alas, even Charlie Rangel and Governor Andrwe Cuomo; who is Congressman Rangel in particular to get sanctimonious? is what I'm wondering.

I wonder if one of his opponents or even one of the many supposedly upright pols so scandalized by his candidacy actually having a chance worked with Beritbart's outfit to get this dirt out. Just what is the dirty's source? You have to excuse me, but this was my first post here at Diary 2 years ago.

I have to admit I'd love to see him win just to make the VSPs dismay. This though no doubt could really hurt him if it's determined that he sent these late last year.

On the other hand, the problem with Mr. Cuccienlli is his past makes is sound like he's too committed to there not being too much sex-and not the wrong kind.

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli once suggested that society would benefit from enforcing anti-adultery laws, according to a report dating to the Republican’s days as a state senator.
Speaking to Richmond’s Style Weekly magazine back in 2008, Cuccinelli defended laws criminalizing extramarital sex, saying that such restrictions “ought to stay on the books.”

“Frankly it wouldn’t hurt to enforce them more,” Cuccinelli is quoted saying. The magazine paraphrased Cuccinelli drawing a comparison to “perjury inasmuch as the occasional prosecution or two would get people thinking twice.”

Now he just wants to talk about the economy. However, as Virginia's Attorney General he's taken on the 'wrong kinds' of sex-anal and oral sex.

"Sherri Shepherd of ABC's "The View'" has not exactly been the most ardent champion of gay rights in the past, having supported Proposition 8 in 2008. But yesterday on the showshe commented that if Virginia GOP gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli -- who is intent on reinstating Virginia's Crimes Against Nature law -- really thinks oral sex (between any two people) is the same as gay sex, then she, a self-professed evangelical Christian, "is gayer than a gay two-dollar bill."

"Is this really where the GOP is going in 2013, taking on straight sex too? And that raises yet another question: Is it time for a reporter to ask Cuccinelli, currently the Virginia attorney general, if he's ever engaged in cunnilingus or had anyone go down on him? Is American politics truly headed in that direction as the GOP defies political analysts as well as the beliefs and practices of the vast majority of Americans and continues to pander to extremists within in its base."
For me, I find Cuccinelli's obsessions much scarier than Weiner's-regardless of when he sent these latest tweets. Virginia's state saying is that 'Virginia is for lovers', but, when you go from Bob McDonnell to potentially Cuccienlli, they might want to think of a new one.
