Nancy Brinker: Not That Crazy

     Yesterday Brinker had been playing brinkmanship, declaring "we will not bow down" to political pressure to reverse her decision for her charitable organization Susan G. Komen to no longer made any contributions to Planned Parenthood. Some social conservatives had claimed that she would gain new supporters-a doubtful claim.

    However many social conservatives she may have gained-I doubt very many; the reality is that most anti-abortion zealots don't care about women's health and well being-you have to factor in how many she was likely to lose.

   In the end she herself realized this and has indeed now "bowed down" which is a good thing for her-it many save her organization. If she hadn't down this it was headed for extinction,.

  

  "We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives," Komen said in a statement on Friday signed by its board of directors and its founder Nancy Brinker.

   I don't know why she ever made such a bad decision in the first place but at least she saw reason.Part of thre reason may have been they were pressured by anti-abortion activists:

 "Planned Parenthood supporters, including local directors within Komen's ranks, say Komen had come under pressure from anti-abortion activists. Social conservatives had lauded the move to disengage from Planned Parenthood and said it would win Komen new supporters."

   It was a victory for the rights of women, for choice.
