Media Fooling itself that Clintons are Worried About Trump's Attacks

Again, though, I'm fine with him making them at this point in the cycle. It can only consolidate his support among GOPers so where's the downside?

Morning Joe now seems to think that Trump's pivot to Monica Lewinsky, et. al. is just devastating to the Clintons. But you know, in a way, the Clintons have always driven the media nuts in a similar way to Trump. No matter what the media throws at them-nothing ever sticks.

Remember when Emailgate was going to destroy her? We remember the 90s when the media went along with Whitewater, Vince Foster, et. al and none of it stuck.

Now Morning Joe thinks that this will have an impact because there are 'young kids who never heard about this before'-talk about kidding yourself.

So 20 years later, Republicans are still hoping that Bill Clinton's sex life could be that silver bullet to destroy the Clintons.

Some in the media are reading a lot into the Clintons not answering the recent Trump slurs.

"Both Clintons view Trump’s presence as a positive, and see him as an ultimately unacceptable candidate who will drive all but his hardcore fans away from the eventual Republican nominee. Clinton’s veteran press staff thinks the key to beating Trump is to marginalize him – by refusing to bite every bit of bait he dangles – the better to concentrate on an unexpectedly stout primary threat from Bernie Sanders."

So far Clinton and her oft-hot-headed husband have tried to play it as cool as possible with Trump. “I've adopted a New Year's resolution,” Clinton said during one of her first Iowa events of 2016. “I'm going to let him live in his alternate reality. I'm not going to respond.”

"But Hillary Clinton is an intensely competitive – and sometimes paranoid – politician who has always browbeat her staff when they didn’t rush to defend her from attacks. And one of the prime Clinton directives from the early 1990’s “War Room” days is not allowing any attack to go unanswered. With Trump spewing out new accusations and insults by the hour that could be a time- and resource-consuming business."

Morning Joe thinks Trump intimidated them into not responding. This is a laugh. Bill made it very clear in his response that he's trying to help Hillary, full stop. What he said then made too much sense: If he's the nominee then we'd have something to say.

Of course. I mean what would be the benefit in arguing with Trump now?

My theory is Bill Clinton is the ultimate Trump Democrat. He doesn't actually want to harm Trump during the primary.

If Republicans see this and take it as Trump bullied the Clintons and they shut their mouths then all the better-it means Trump is more likely to be the nominee. The base already believes Trump is the most electable-even though the numbers show it's the opposite!

So for the Clintons this is a win-win-they are not cowering in their boots because Trump went there.
