We Can't Miss Steve Levy Until He's Gone

Certainly the Police Benevolent Association will miss the out going Suffolk County Executive, why else would their website  be counting down the seconds to his departure? With the close of yesterday's polls last night this number reached 53 days and 3 seconds.

Levy's term since he was reelected in 2007 has been a whirlwind for want of a better term. His decision this year to not seek reelection was abrupt and very surprising. It would seem that few could want a better start to a second term than Levy had in 2007 winning 96% of the vote-yes 96%. To be sure this was because both the Democrats and Republicans supported him as well as three minor ones. Until last year he was a Democrat, he changed party in an unsuccessful run for New York Governor. His decision not to run again came after prosecutors at the district attorney's office started raising questions about his fundraising. At that time he turned over his $4 million campaign fund to the district attorney.

While Levy was a Democrat prior to his failed attempt at Governor he was always a fiscal conservative-as his proposal to cut 710 county jobs should make abundantly clear. He is also on the record for voicing some pretty shocking hate speech.

"Levy has called immigration rights advocates "communists" and "anarchists"; regularly uses dehumanizing anti-immigrant rhetoric such as "anchor babies"; and has joked about the murder of Marcelo Lucero, saying that the fallout from the killing had given him about the discomfort of a colonoscopy, and claiming the brutal beating and stabbing would have been a "one-day story" if it had occurred elsewhere (because immigrant advocates are just out to get him)."

Hey Levy?! We can't miss you until you're gone!
