Romney Team in Denial About Failing Campaign

When asked about Romney's sagging polls the Romney campaign answer is that only Rasmussen matters. Right the one poll wholly biased is the only one worth looking at.

"The Romney campaign pushed back at a recent string of polls that show President Obama gaining ground nationally."

"At a briefing for reporters ahead of a four-day bus tour, a senior adviser tried to paint three recent polls as a blip and not something to be taken as a sign of serious problems for Mitt Romney. Reuters/Ipsos showed Obama with 7 point lead, Fox News with a 9 point lead and CNN with a 7 point lead."

“Guys, it’s the middle of summer, it’s the dolldrums, it's the middle of the Olympics,” the adviser who spoke on background said. “There has not been any national news, anything that would push these numbers from 3 to 9 points.”

"The adviser pointed to no changes in Gallup or Rassmussen tracking numbers as evidence those polls were wrong."

“You've got to have something to precipitate that kind of sea change,” the adviser said. “The attitudes toward the economy, attitudes on right direction, wrong track haven't changed a bit. It hasn't changed, it is still the same as it was a month ago in terms of attitudes toward the economy.”

"The adviser added, “If you're going to see change, we would have seen the change in Gallup and Rasmussen. Mark my words, there will be another couple of polls next week. People are not paying as much attention to this process. So I think the impact is just negligent.”

I think this "adviser" probably means negligible. But the main word to sum him up is illusion. This narrative that all that matters is the economy is one that he and the Right wing media made up together-David Brooks, et al. They've decided that if the economy doesn't improve, Obama will  lose. Turns out that the American people don't take orders from David Brooks or Romney advisers.

For what it's worth Americans rate the President higher than Mitt Romney on the economy anyway. They can wait for the cooked polls at Rasmussent but meanwhile the fire's spreading. Pretending it's not there won't put it out anymore than stonewalling on releasing Romney's tax returns.

RNC Chairmen, Reince Priebus is also in denial-I guess with a name like Reince Priebus you learn denial early. Probably his first act of denial was telling people his real name in elementary school. He says he's done with talking about Mitt Romney's tax returns:

"It’s ridiculous,” Priebus said in response. “He’s released two years of taxes, he’s releasing 2011, he released 500 pages of documents.”

“Americans say that’s not enough,” Baldwin said, citing a CNN/ORC poll released Thursday showing 63 percent of Americans want Romney to release additional tax returns."

“Any second we spend not talking about how this president failed in his mission, the mission to fix this economy, he campaigned on this economy, he hasn’t accomplished a darn thing,” Priebus said. “We’re worse off. That’s the issue, and I’m not spending any more time talking about this issue.”

Unfortunately for Reince, American voters don't take orders from him on what they want to talk about or what issues they believe matters. He may be tried of talking about it-he probably said way too much last Sunday. But voters still want to talk about it.
