Romney: I'm not Running on the Ryan Budget

In our last piece we looked at Romney's latest gaffe, In introducing Ryan he said "Meet the next President of the United States."

That enabled me to have a little bit of fun:

Oops! Romney calls Ryan Next President of US

But seriously folks. Romney insists that he's his own man. This is not a Bush-Cheney situation. Christians like to talk about being "in the world but not of the world"-I know a random theological reference.

Similarly Romney wants us to know that he is running with Ryan but not on the Ryan budget. I'm sure no one will get that confused:

"Within minutes of physically embracing his new running mate Paul Ryan on a Norfolk, Va., stage, Mitt Romney was distancing himself from Ryan’s controversial House budget proposal."

"From Romney campaign talking points, distributed to reporters after Romney’s first appearance with his VP pick (emphasis added):
Does this mean Mitt Romney is adopting the Paul Ryan plan?

• Gov. Romney applauds Paul Ryan for going in the right direction with his budget, and as president he will be putting together his own plan for cutting the deficit and putting the budget on a path to balance.

• Romney’s administration will go through the budget line by line and ask two questions: Can we afford it? And, if not, should we borrow money from China to pay for it?

• Mitt Romney will start with the easiest cut of all: Obamacare, a trillion-dollar entitlement we don’t want and can’t afford.

Does Romney have any sense of personal irony at all? I say that in view of the third bullet first of all. So he's not running on the Ryan budget but he's choosing it's architect for Veep. If he's not runningn on it, what part of the Ryan plan does he disagree with? Does he still endorse it?

There is never been anyone who more minutely parses teh cricle than Mr. Romney. You know he's against Obamacare except in Massachusetts. He wasn't at Bain after 1999, he was just the company CEO, President, Director, and Controlling Person. He wasn't responsible for the Son of the Boss tax fraud that the Marriot Hotel engaged in during the time he was on the board. After all, he was just the auditor.

He's not running on the Ryan budget, he's just running with the guy who wrote it, and personally has endorsed it but why would anyone make such an inference?

Basically he supports the Ryan budget but he's not running on it. Any questions?

If anyone has ever seemed to as a life credo deny the saying "You can't be just a littel bit pregnant" it is Mitt Romney.

Meanwhile here's what they're saying in Democratland:

We can't wait to start running against the Ryan budget.
