Jan 21, 2014: Talk About a Terrible Day to be a Republican Governor

Two Governors were elected in 2009-Chris Christie and former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell. One was indicted on 14 counts and faces a federal prosecution. The other one is Chris Christie. Interestingly, Christie is the current President of the Republican Governor's Association and the previous one was: Bob McDonnell. Today was a very tough day for old Vag Ultrasounds himself, Bob McDonnell.

"Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, once viewed as a rising star in the GOP, and his wife were indicted Tuesday on federal corruption charges accusing the couple of accepting tens of thousands of dollars in loans, shopping sprees, money for their daughter's wedding — and even a joyride in a Ferrari — from the owner of a company that makes health supplements."

"The 14-count indictment portrays the former governor as deeply entrenched in credit card debt even before he took office and willing to accept lavish gifts from Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams, who hoped the first couple's endorsement for his products would yield big profits for his company."
"McDonnell appeared Tuesday night at a hastily called news conference in Richmond to strongly deny any wrongdoing and denounce what he said was an "unjust overreach" by federal prosecutors."
"I did nothing illegal for Mr. Williams in exchange for what I believed was his personal friendship and his generosity," said McDonnell, who was flanked by his wife, daughter and son-in-law as he read from prepared remarks.
"McDonnell vowed to "use every available resource and advocate" to fight the charges."
"While still in office, the governor apologized for accepting the gifts and repaid thousands to Williams. Limited to a single term by state law, McDonnell left the executive mansion earlier this month in disgrace, his approval numbers low and his political future in tatters."
Well at least these resources won't the from the state of Virginia as McDonnell has already done enough on the people of the state's dime.
Meanwhile Chris Christie was sworn in for his second inauguration. However, not too many people felt like celebrating. He wasn't able to raise the money for his planned inauguration party on the NY side of Ellis Island. No doubt he's almost grateful for the weather to be able to claim that was what cancelled the party. Yet the reality is that it was much harder to get donors excited about his swearing in this time around.
On Thursday night he was assuring donors that he had put Bridgegate behind him. On Friday there were 20 subpoenas issued moistly for high ranking members of his own staff. Then in more news today the State Senate and State Assembly in New Jersey are pooling their investigations. On Saturday we had the breaking story of the Major of Hoboken's accusation and on Sunday the Feds were questioning her.
Turns out 2009 was not a good time to be elected Republican Governor. Uneasy is the head which wears the crown. Especially is the crown is for the President of the Republican Governor's Association.
