Yankees 14 Red Sox 4: The Bombers are Back

Ok, it was just one game, but at a minimum what last night showed is that the Yanks are still capable from time to time to putting fear into opposing pitchers and they showed this last night by breaking out and scoring more runs in the first inning than they had scored in any of their previous 5 games. Just yesterday I myself, was fretting about the Yanks anemic offensive production. It seemed that the Detroit Tigers were the new bombers.

Detroit has been pretty impressive through 6 games, going 6-0 and outscoring opponents 47-16, but last night the Yanks finally remembered their supposed to be the bombers. I'm happy to say that the whole thing started with A-Rod in the first inning:

"Alex Rodriguez has had some startling success early in his return from a yearlong suspension.

"After New York's breakout night in the Bronx, A-Rod thinks the Yankees are ready to surprise some people around the major leagues, too."

"Rodriguez had a three-run double in a seven-run first-inning outburst, and the Yankees broke out the bats and avoided their worst start in more than 25 years with a 14-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night."

I remember during spring training when geniuses like MIchael Kay were wondering if A-Rod was going to make the team-as if there was ever a chance he wouldn't. Yet they seemed to be hoping.
I'm sure part of A-Rod's success is being driven by his determination to throw egg in the face of such sanctimonious pundits. What must drive the Kays, the Mike Lupicas, the Bill Maddens of the world crazy is that despite all their claims to the contrary, A-Rod has not been a social pariah. Not among the people who count-the fans. I'm sure this kills them.
Last night on ESPN which did the Yankee-Red Sox game, the announcers-one of which was Curt Schilling-I think spoke for most fans in saying that Rodriiguez had done his time and it was time to get back to discussing baseball not the kangaroo court that had suspended A-Rod for an absurd 162 games. Ok, that last part they didn't say, that's my feeling about it.
However, they did say that he did his time and let's get back to baseball and I do think most fans agree wholeheartedly about that. After all, the Yankees really need whatever offensive punch they can get and at this very early stage, he has been their most consistent offensive player.
It was also fitting that this came against the Red Sox. Tanaka looked better; he may not be all the way back yet, but he looks like he's getting there and for now-cross your fingers-seems like he's healthy.
P.S. With many more games like this, the Yanks indeed will as A-Rod says, surprise some people around the major leagues. Certainly were a surprise yesterday after scoring 17 runs in 5 games to get 14 in 1.
