Yes, this is a big weekend-for sports not politics. We have the Super Bowl tomorrow between the very strong Seahawks vs. Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos and tonight we have the Knicks against the Heat-Anthony vs. Lebron which for a Knicks fan like me is big.
However, or so it seemed. However, today's headlines make this a big weekend in politics as well. David Wildstein a former high ranking official in the NJ Port Authority who was forced out of his job after the Chrstie-bridgegate scandal broke made a bombshell claim through his attorney. It should be borne in mind that he got his job through Christie as well.
Speaking of sports, there is no better sportswriter than Mike Lupica. What I also love is when he wades out of sports and talks about other current events or politics. Here is Mike on the meaning of Wildstein's claim:
"This doesn’t mean that Bridget Anne Kelly, called “stupid” by Chris Christie and essentially fired on television, will tell a similar story when she is called to testify about all this under oath. But if either she or Wildstein does have proof that Christie lied when he said he didn’t know, Christie isn’t just through as a presidential candidate, his political career is over.

No matter how you look at it this is huge. Wildstein is a very big fish to catch. He clearly doesn't plan to go down alone. If Kelly corroborates the Governor's story that doesn't necessarily mean it's the truth. It might just be that she's willing to fall on her sword and Wildstein isn't. I think the charges made by Wildstein along are so explosive Christie's Presidential ambitions if they weren't DOA before must be now.
Christie has tried to blame it all on rogue staffers-Kelly, Wildstein, et. al He claims that he learned about the lane closings in the paper and thought it was just a traffic study until January 8. Laughably he claimed after Wildstein's statement that it corroborated his claim of ignorance. Yet here is what Wildstein-through his attorney Zegas-actually said:
"Wildstein’s lawyer on Friday released a letter that paints Christie as one of the most bold-faced liars in modern political history. And Christie’s response, amounting to one great big dodge, did nothing to dispel the notion
Attorney Alan Zegas stated that “evidence exists . . . tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference.”

Wildstein says he has proof. He says that Christie has made many false statements about him and that he can prove 'some of them are false.' it's beginning to look like Christie 'will never eat lunch in this town again' except that this town isn't Washington D.C. but Hoboken, NJ.
"All the king’s horses and all the king’s men will never put Chris Christie together again if New Jersey’s governor fails to refute the accusation that he knew of the George Washington Bridge lane closures as they were taking place.
In that event, Christie’s governorship is over and he should prepare to face a federal criminal probe as a private citizen. Resignation would be a must. Otherwise, impeachment would be a snap."
