Speaker Boehner, I Think We've all Had Enough

Today he was huffing and puffing about the usual kvetch: that we keep "kicking the can down the road" and that we have a "spending problem not a revenue problem."

"House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) on Wednesday told reporters that it's time for lawmakers in Washington to act on spending cuts."

"At some point Washington has to deal with its spending problem," Boehner said. "I've watched them take this can down the road for 20 years since I've been here. I've had enough of it. It's time to act."

Not for nothing, Mr. Speaker, but I'm tired too. I've had enough. Ive had enough of all your talk about a spending problem. If the can is always kicked down the road then maybe it's time to stop chasing the can. If you've been there 20 years and nothing is ever achieved how do you justify your position? Much less than run for Speaker every 2 years maybe you should retire.

You've tried everything. You and Gingrich shutdown the govt in 1995. It didn't work. You lost the political fight to President Clinton and by 1999 Gingrich had lost his job as the then Speaker of the House. You now have the same position he did. You played debt ceiling chicken in 2011. It didn't work. You and your party suffered historic losses then and now even Rush Limbaugh admits that for the foreseeable future things will only get worse for your party.

In any case, what deficit reduction you have done since 2011 may actually be making things worse:

However, the one bit of news is that in this speech Boehner also said he doesn't want the sequester cuts either. Great. Try working with the President who just proposed that we not allow the sequester to detonate all at once in an economy that just showed contraction in the last 3 months.

In the end the House GOP will have to negotiate a way to avoid having all these cuts indiscriminately hit the economy all at once. This is the first admission-that they can't just sit back and "pocket" the cuts.
