The Firebaggers are also Gloating Over GOP's Win

I know some people have tried to label the use of the phrase 'firebaggers' as equivalent of almost a racial slur, yet they hold on to the world 'Obamabot' as being part of civil discourse. In a previous post I talked about a good post by Fernando Espuelas about Hispanic voters this last cycle.

"Once again, most of the American Latino community failed to perform its most basic civic duty - voting. Complaining and whining, a majority of Latino voters stayed home. Not helping matters, Spanish-language media, sometimes incapable of decoding and explaining basic American politics, convinced millions of Latinos that President Obama, and by extension all Democrats, could not be trusted any more than the Republicans that have systematically blocked comprehensive immigration reform."

"Missing from that flawed narrative is the basic fact that Speaker John Boehner, corralled by the Tea Party extremist in his party, was incapable to bringing the bipartisan Senate immigration bill to a vote, effectively exercising the Speaker's legislative veto against immigration reform."

There were three groups of people that were very happy last Tuesday night with the big GOP wins. Obviously firstly the Repubs themselves. Anyone worried that they would not be sore winners worried needlessly with Reince Priebus vowing that the GOP would do ntohing in the last 2 years on immigration while the party decided that they will now hold onto Congress for the next 100 years.

Besides the GOP there is the Very Serious Media

Finally, the firebaggers. They love it. We have a typical piece by Michael Bennett at HuffingtonPost.

"For six years the Democrats have been bent on committing political suicide. Or so it seems. President Barack Obama has been the point man for this bizarre self-immolation. That period represents the culmination of a long 30 year exercise in political obtuseness that has seen a steady estrangement from the party's roots and a fatal mimicking of their Republican rivals. 2010 saw the first fruits of the project. Despite every plank in the traditional GOP program being exposed as rotten and the cause of national disasters at home and abroad, the Democrats under White House leadership contrived to allow the opposition to paint them as the problem. What should have been 1934 became 1994. Now the party has had both wrists slashed as it awaits morosely and impotently for the coup de grace in 2016."

"Yet, party leaders react with surprise. They beat their breasts and gnash their teeth -- how on earth could this have happened? Who could have predicted this debacle?"
"This bizarre tale knows no precedent in American political history. The explanation, though, is readily apparent for those willing to look at the record. The formula did not require anything as exotic as hemlock; rather the more prosaic ingredients were imbibed gradually. The most toxic have been these."
"One, alienate your core constituencies. That includes reneging on a pledge to help the trade unions; launch a campaign of vilification against school teachers -- from kindergarten through college; attack civil liberties protections; commit to reductions in Social Security and Medicare; stiff the environmentalists. In short, do to them in a calculated way what a Republican president would do instinctively."

He's enjoying it. All the firebaggers reading this are enjoying it. This narrative though is quite wrong. In 2012, the folks at Firedoglake were going to defeat Obama he was going to be beaten by the 'True Progressive Alliance.' Ok, it was close... Ok maybe not so much.
So now they're going to gloat. Meanwhile Brenner has not done any justice to Obama's time in office providing a very one sided summation; the President's first two years in office was historic with ACA, the stimulus, and Dodd-Frank. All these Obama haters of the Left can do is take potshots that the legislation didn't go far enough, rather than even acknowledge what it did do.
If you listen to someone like Brenner what to you gain? Far from him being a guide or compass to action, this mawkish Casandra talk paralyzes action. Of course that's the real goal.
I see that NPA is still at it. They're front page now is a quote from Hunter S. Thompson declaring war on the Democratic party.  The Democratic party must be 'done away with' before anything can be accomplished.

I also checked out Firedoglake these days. They sure know how to have fun-they were fawning over Gorbachev the other day. He was criticizng American arrogance following the Cold War-yep, Putin is not at all arrogant.
