Pundits Befuddled: Obama Increases His Lead Over Romney

      We keep hearing that this election is going to be about "the economy, the economy, and nothing but the economy" and more Americans are indeed pessimistic about the economy and our direction and yet this is not translating into any groundswell for Romney.

      Quite the opposite, in fact, he is losing ground. We saw him with a 10 point lead in a recent Pew Research poll. Then there were the state polls which showed Obama with a 6 point lead in both Florida and Ohio, and an 11 point lead in Pennsylvania. And now, yet another poll shows that the President's lead is only widening. The media can't figure out why it's narrative doesn't seem to carry any weight:

      "Americans are increasingly pessimistic about the future but voters do not seem to be holding it against Democratic President Barack Obama, who slightly expanded his lead over Republican rival Mitt Romney this month, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll says."

      "Three months before the November 6 presidential election, nearly two-thirds of Americans think the country is moving in the wrong direction. Only 31 percent say it is moving in the right direction - the lowest number since December 2011."

     "But Obama's lead over Romney among registered voters was 49 percent to 42 percent, up slightly from the 6-point advantage the president held a month earlier over the former Massachusetts governor."

     You got to admire what I call the "Dick Morris Syndrome"-that's where people are wrong and yet don't let this stop them from making more and more absurd predictions. No one is wrong more than Morris who thinks Romney is going to win a landslide, or so he claimed on Fox.

      However, a lot of the media seem to be catching DMS. We see ridiculous headlines that wonder if the attacks on Romney about Bain and his taxes might hurt Obama. Funny how they don't seem to wonder if the attacks might hurt Romney.

     Every time Romney puts his foot in his mouth we hear "Americans don't care about that"-whatever it is this time. They just care about the economy. You know they don't care that he made a fool of himself in Britian-they can imagine electing a guy who got clowned by the British press-they don't care that he made racist and jingoistic comments in Israel and even said what no responsible Presidential Administration, Republican or Democrat, ever says-that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.

    Americans also don't care that Romney's campaign lost it's cool in Poland and swore at reporters right in front of a sacred Polish site.

    Americans don't care that Romney thinks he doesn't have to release his returns and can yet demand their vote. They don't care about the time he insulted the Pittsburgh bakery owner and asked if he got his cookies from a 7-Eleven. They don't care that Romney doesn't care about the poor and tells young college women to "vote for the other guy" and jokes about being unemployed though he has at least $250 million dollars-as Reid suggested maybe much more.

     All they care about is the economy. Yet all these things together-maybe that adds up to something they care about? Whatever it is Romney is getting no traction. While the media has been demanding that Reid divulge his source's name from Bain-and break a confidence-they aren't demanding that Romney release his tax returns.

    Yet, believe it or not, the Bain attacks aren't hurting the President, the economy isn't hurting the President and the David Brookses of the world watch stunned as no one cares that they keep claiming that Obama has run an unusually "nasty" campaign-even though he hasn't.

   Whatever could be going on? You almost wonder if these pundits carping about Reid and a dirty campaign aren't as "very serious" as they think they are.

   The unkindest cut of all for them and the candidate who they are trying to carry, is that Americans don't even think he's be better on the economy anymore-he had a small, though not overwhelming lead in this in the past:

    "The poll indicated that 46 percent of registered voters thought Obama was stronger on jobs and the economy, compared with 44 percent for Romney. And on tax matters, 49 percent saw Obama as stronger, compared with 38 percent for Romney."
