Benghazi Know it All John McCain is Surprised By DNI

I mean this is a guy who didn't go to a briefing on Benghazi last Friday because he claimed to know everything already. It was obviously terrorism right? So what's left to know?

Yet now, the man who knew everything-more even than the man who knew too much-suddenly is surprised in discovering something he did not know. So maybe he should have gone to that briefing rather than preening for the media while complaining about not being briefed on Benghazi.

"Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) released a statement on Tuesday in which he responded to reports that the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) scrubbed references to Al-Qaeda from the unclassified talking points used by United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice and others following the September attack in Benghazi."

"McCain said the revelation runs counter to what he was told by intelligence officials during Senate hearings and serves as another reminder of why he and other Republicans are "suspicious" of the Obama administration's response to the attack."

"I am somewhat surprised and frustrated to read reports that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence was responsible for removing references to Al-Qaeda from the unclassified talking points about the Benghazi attack that Ambassador Susan Rice and other officials used in the early days after September 11, 2012. I participated in hours of hearings in the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence last week regarding the events in Benghazi, where senior intelligence officials were asked this very question, and all of them – including the Director of National Intelligence himself – told us that they did not know who made the changes. Now we have to read the answers to our questions in the media. There are many other questions that remain unanswered. But this latest episode is another reason why many of us are so frustrated with, and suspicious of, the actions of this Administration when it comes to the Benghazi attack.”

See how he tries to leave the door open about "other questions" being unanswered. One question not answered is what right does he have to insult Susan Rice's intelligence and accusing her of not being very bright? She actually has a first rate education and is a Rhode scholar. The other day McCain was melodramatically demanding that she go on tv and admit she'd given false information. Will McCain admit that he gave totally false and egregious lies about her record and intelligence as it turns out the intel was right about this.

If this was the statement put out by the DNI it's not clear why there is any reason to be suspicious or frustrated with the Administration as they didn't give us the numbers.

For the record even now it's far from certain that Al Qeada had anything to do with the attack while McCain and company heap scorn on that anti Muslim video it remains. It seems that Rice's overall point-whether or not she mentioned Al Qeada-was that the terrorists used the mayhem with the video to exploit it to enable themselves to come after they had left-may actually be what happened according to both the CIA and Libyan intelligence.

On this there's a good deal of confusion in the media. It's like how we were hearing for weeks that Obama never used the word terrorism.

However,, a look at the original talking points memo from the CIA clears it up.
