The Answer to the Question is Mitt Romney 2016

So what's the question? Actually the Wall Street Journal got it right.

"If Mitt Romney is the answer, what is the question? We can think of a few worthy possibilities, though one that doesn’t come immediately to mind is who would be the best Republican presidential nominee in 2016."

"Mr. Romney told donors last week he is mulling a third run for the White House, confirming cheering whispers from his coterie of advisers. The question the former Massachusetts Governor will have to answer is why he would be a better candidate than he was in 2012."

It's a very good question as to why this time will be different after being beaten soundly by McCain in 2008 and Obama in the gneeral election in 2012.

It's been quite interesting how quickly all the Republicans praising Romney have stopped the minute he did one thing: announced he's thinking about running again. Before this some were actually claiming that he might be the best candidate in the 2016 field and that he had allegedly been right on Russia, etc, However, once their dream seemed to becoming reality they ran away screaming.

The sad thing is he really may be the best candidate.

The question is this: if not Romney then who? It seems to me that the GOP establishment choice is pretty clear: Jeb Bush. There are a number of things you can say in favor of Bush-particularly his position on immigration assuming the GOP base would allow him to win the nomination with something that almost sounds like a humane position on that issue.

However, the trouble with Bush is quite basic: his name is Bush. I mean Chris Christie was razzed by his fellow Republicans after hugging President Obama and all of us football fans in the NY-NJ-PA area razzed him after he hugged Jerry Jones but what Republican would be caught dead hugging George W. Bush?

He was not invited to Romney's convention in 2012-incidentally, the GOP has pushed that event forward in 2016; hoping that having it earlier will help somehow-and when Cheney came to speak to GOPers in Congress in 2012 there were no pictures or video allowed.

So maybe even now Mr. 47 percent-though he's part of the 53 percent-is more viable than Jeb Bush-or any Bush.

But if not Jeb then who? Who's the GOP Establsihemnt choice? Christie?! Surely you jest. I mean if you thought Romney had it rough with the 47 percent comments and his refusal to release his full tax returns, imagine what Mr. Time for some trouble on the George Washington Bridge would face. Talk about a glass jaw.

There is Scott Walker who can argue he beat the unions in Wisconsin though he'd be a big lightning rod nationally and actually has his own ethics issues. Then there's Rand Paul who is starting out his campaign by going after Social Security Disability payments-he thinks it's just healthy folks over 40 with a little back pain.

Yeah, that's the winning formula for the GOP to get back into the White House.

Against the Democrats who will be pushing more overtime pay and Chris Van Hollen's plan for a $1,000 tax credit for everyone that makes less than six figures that's pretty much a dream matchup for the Dems.
