Sounds Like a Joke Gone Bad

This is the judgement of Paul Ryan who won his primary over the Trump candidate Scott Nehlen, 75-25.

"House Speaker Paul Ryan declined to join the criticism of Donald Trump over the GOP nominee’s casual aside Tuesday that gun owners might somehow take matters into their own hands to stop Hillary Clinton from appointing federal judges as president."

"Speaking at a news conference Tuesday night in Wisconsin after his landslide win in a GOP primary, Ryan said he hadn't actually heard Trump's remarks but he had heard about them."

"I've been a little busy," Ryan said. "It sounds like a joke gone bad. You should never joke about that. I hope he clears it up quickly."

"Trump sparked the latest uproar of his campaign earlier in the day when he veered off script during a rally."

“Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish, the Second Amendment,” he said. “By the way, and if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what, that will be a horrible day.”

So that's what the GOP House Leader says about Trump's joke.

"Here's what the US Secret Service said:

"The Secret Service is aware of the comments made earlier this afternoon."

A lot of people have been calling the SS and talking about it under the Twitter hashtag, #ProtectHillary

My friend Mary on Twitter:

"I called the Secret Service to complain. 202-406-5708 they said I was not alone."

https://twitter.com/maryaoden/status/763175609388310529

Delia Hayes:

"RT on 8/10/16 est. call @LorettaLynch 202-514-2000 2 charge @realDonaldTrump 4threats of bodily harm against H.Clinton."

https://twitter.com/MimmyHayes/status/763201628618956800

The Trumpsters like Ann Coulter are besides themselves. They insist he wasn't joking about this.

"Trump NRA comment: 1) it wasn't about assassination; 2) media IS trying to get Trump assassinated by incessantly calling him HITLER."

https://twitter.com/AnnCoulter/status/763163379263340544

Has Coulter been reading Scott Adams?

But the trouble for Trump is this is not close to the first time. He has 'joked' in the past about:

1. 'Lock her up!'

2. Putin should hack her emails.

The Secret Service doesn't see it as a joke.

If he didn't mean it this way why does even Paul Ryan call it a bad joke, why is the SS taking it seriously?

When your the Commander in Chief there can't be this kind of ambiguity. This is what saying the wrong thing gets you.

One thing about being POTUS is poorly phrased or indiscreet words can cause market meltdowns or international incidents.

The bottomline is even if everyone is taking you wrong, that's on you. If you want to be Leader of the Free World, you can't misspeak. If the SS has to put out a statement about what you've said, there's something wrong.

In other words if you're POTUS, you have to choose words carefully, the opposite of what Trump does. Some have now pointed out this is the downside with 'straight talk.'

"Trump’s loaded words fuel campaign freefall."

"Detouring off script again lands the GOP nominee in perilous territory."

"Barely 24 hours after Donald Trump delivered a speech intended to reset his staggering presidential campaign, his off-the-cuff suggestion that people resort to violence against his opponent has him right back in the ditch."

"The aside, delivered casually, drew light laughter from Trump’s crowd but a swift, emphatic rebuke from across the political spectrum, with Republicans and Democrats alike broadcasting their shock."

“You aren’t just responsible for what you say; you’re responsible for what people hear,” said former CIA director Michael Hayden during breaking news coverage of Trump’s comments on CNN.

This is the key. It doesn't matter what Trump's intent was if everyone is taking it the wrong way. If that's true, it's still totally on him.

We'll let Elizabeth Warren have the last word:'

".@realDonaldTrump makes death threats because he's a pathetic coward who can’t handle the fact that he’s losing to a girl."

  1. Nehlen did that well? Last I checked it was more like 84% Ryan vs %16 Nehlen.

  2. I based it on this

    Kenosha County:

    Paul Ryan - 7102 (75%)

    Paul Nehlen - 2312 (25%)

(102 polls reporting out of 114)

Maybe that was just in Kenoshoba County
